Great White actually has some excellent blues-based hard rock & roll. Good stuff and not just fluff like your typical hair band.

If Dokken had been playing outside during that fire, I would have stayed inside.   :P

I'm with Drew on this. There was PLENTY of blame to go around, and the Derderians took the biggest hit. Jeff Derderian was actually a reporter for the local NBC affiliate in Boston and had a fairly prominent role. I always depised the guy, because he always seemed so full of himself on the air. Even though I couldn't stand the guy, I thought the town of Warwick should have taken the biggest hit for not inspecting this property and ensuring it wasn't the fire trap it was!

Dude, come on! Lighting dynamite and road safety flares in a curtain laced club borders on idiotic. I can see it now.

Fluff hair drummer: dude, score some road flares from AAA?
Fluffy hair and puffy vested bassist: Yeah, and did the mail order from Bazooka bubblegum arrive yet? I need those M80's.

Manager: Fuck that. I got some lighters and WD40.

Let's Rock!

Haha, Dokken. Those posers were probably listening to some old Krokus 8 tracks in Don's 1973 VW Bus, out in the A+W Root Beer parking lot, chuggin Pabst Blue Ribbons in an attempt to save money on buying beers inside the club. Cheap cocks.

I agree and disagree John, what in the world has happened to people taking the responsibility to at least follow code? Those codes aren't there because someone dreamed them up. They've been put in place over time in reaction to injuries and loss of life from similar instances. At the very least, that tragedy has probably changed a few other establishments code following practices, if not helped to establish more stringent codes as well.

Please understand that I am definitely NOT defending the Derderian brothers, because I am not. I just don't think it's right to present these guys as guys who intentionally caused that AWFUL fire. They are ABSOLUTELY culpable for the decisions they made. That said, cities and towns have a code enforcement department for a reason. A business owner typically only cares about their bottom line. I'm not saying that should be their only priority...just stating what reality is, in most cases. It's the code enforcement department's job to keep the public safe and ensure that there aren't blatant code violations in ANY public establishment, and they failed their responsibility, MISERABLY, when it came to "The Station" nightclub fire!

Yeah, any way you slice it, people failed and lives were lost. Too sad.

Yeah, that was a terrible thing that happened. Gave me nightmares for the longest . The people running the gig wanted to have a good show but they didn't put on their thinking caps when they were setting it up and it turned tragic in a heartbeat.

Agreed In my opinion, songs like "Once Bitten Twice Shy" were their worst material. That's the trade-off of having a hot single... I hated it from the beginning, as well as the clone song, "Call It Rock And Roll". Now there was another similar one that I actually enjoyed... "Desert Moon". Unfortunately, this was the song they were playing when the place went up in flames.

The Station incident was just a horrible, horrible thing to happen. Sure, people did stupid things, but no one set out to kill a hundred kids. That's a heavy albatross to have to go thru life with...

A few years earlier, I'd seen the KISS tribute band Strutter play for the 2nd time in a small club here. The ceiling had black material stapled to it, and when "Gene" breathed his fire, it ignited a portion of the cloth. I still remember it vividly... "Paul" looked up and said into the mic, "I didn't know it was supposed to do that", then tossed a glass of water at it. A few seconds later someone ran up with a fire extinguisher and put it out.

The next time I saw Strutter was about 2 years ago... opening for Great White in an open amphitheatre venue. During the GW set, "Paul" came and sat right next to me, and we talked afterwards. He mentioned that they do NOT do pyros on this tour.

Great White rocks hard, and "Psycho City" is probably my favorite G.W. album. Their last album that came out a few months ago is great as well -- nothing groundbreaking, but just good, solid Great White.

That fire was awful..people couldn't get out and it went up so fast! :(
I think Great White was pretty good..my all-time favorite is 'Rock Me'.
a great bluesy, rock tune . 8)
I am glad they are still making music..to go on is the best tribute to those who were lost.

Peace.
Anne

Seriously, to expand on the whole enough blame to go around...the sad thing, is that what happened in RI a few years ago could have been ANY club, in ANY city.

Think about it...these rock clubs that have dino-hair acts....all of them are living breathing fire violations waiting to happen. Every club packs way too many people into the place than considered safe, they don't have adequate fire exits and they don't use fire retardant materials. There's at least ONE major venue in every city here in the US with the above description...we all know it.

So really, this guy got his....but got out early. There's 100 more waiting to take his place. All it takes is another batch of stupidity from some other band's manager...and lets face it, managers are stupid.
