METAL-RULES TALKS TO MICHAEL SWEET:
Stryper frontman Michael Sweet is interviewed by Metal-Rules.com and makes a coupl eof interesting comments worth repeating here.
On the subject of the new Stryper album: "The new album will be much more into a melodic direction. There will be lots of melodies, guitar solos, stacked vocal harmonies and high screams it does sound a lot like the stuff what we used to do in the past. I'm sure that old fans will be pleased when they hear it."
And on possibly working with Boston: "I got an email from a guy who runs a Boston fan site and he asked me if I wanted to comment on his death. I did and he posted it and Tom Schultz read it and contacted me and asked me to play a benefit show. From there it went from me singing one song to me singing three songs and playing guitar for the whole set. Now he's asked me to record with them and tour with them. So I am facing the fact that they are not Christians but they have been a better example of Christianity to me than even some Christians. No drugs, no drinking, polite as can be and very giving. Their music and lyrics are clean. I prayed about it and I felt like it was okay for me to do it and I did it."

He would be sharing lead with Tommy Decarlo, who sounds VERY much like Brad Delp.

nobody can replace delp but i wouldn't mind maybe seeing what michael sweet sounded like with boston.if they put out an album it better live up to the past standards that delp held high.

He didn't sound bad at all singing those Boston songs and his guitar playing was better than I thought he was capable of. I don't like Delp being replaced posthumously but if Scholz is still going to put out music, it's probably going to sound like Boston anyway, so I can't blame him for using the Boston name, if that is indeed what happens.

For the most part, he's right. Most of Boston's music is pretty "clean" by comparison but will he still do songs like "Smokin'", "Party", and "Let Me Take You Home Tonight" that reference both recreational drug use and extra-marital sex?

Sounds like he's straining a bit there but with some training and proper technique, he should be able to do just fine. He'll probably need to lose a little weight, too, and that should help a bit.

If he records with them, it'll will be the first Boston disc I've ever bought...

I was at the Brad Delp memorial concert. Michael Sweet sounded incredible, as did Tommy DeCarlo. I would rather they went on with Fran Cosmo if they are going to go on, but that bridge is already burned, apparently. I would definitely see them again with Michael Sweet.

Where did you get that Tommy would be singing with them?

Rip...you've got to get the Boston discs. There aren't too many of them, so it won't put you out too much $. When I got my first CD player, my first three discs were Boston, Don't Look Back, and Third Stage.

Fran Cosmo would be awesome. Apparently he toured as Boston and got the band mad at him.

WHY on earth do people do that? Ruins so many relationships within bands.

I'm happy to see the band moving on.

I agree, and I agree. She has some pipes too. And I wouldn't have minded a bit her taking the lead in a song, but like you said, just NOT COUNTRY! Damn!

It's really no less strange than JSS becoming the lead singer for Journey, even if it was for just a short period of time. The only major difference being, Sweet would replace a DEAD lead singer, rather than one who just has a dead career (referring to Perry, not JSS).

I love the title track and "You Gave Up on Love". Those two alone are worth buying the CD, IMO.

Why..just because he's from 'STRYPER?' Have you ever really heard the guy sing? I mean beyond what they were popular for in the mainstream like the ballad 'Honestly'
He got a triple wammy in a way. Being involved with a Christian Rock band, how they dressed and the whole hair band bit.
If you were to hear them/him today..and you didn't know where he was from..you'd be dropping your mouth. The dude has a set of pipes..some of the best in the biz and he can rock.

Those who know Michael know that he can do many things. With this I mean that he can pretty much sing ANYTHING well. Any genre..and he can be involved with many things at one time and hold up very well. He is still with Stryper too. They are putting out a new album..which will have a Boston song with Tom. He has also been through so much and always makes it through. He is top notch as far as his character too.
The only thing that came to my mind was him and Tom working together. They both are such perfectionist.

WOW Rip.... from a bit back when I heard that Michael and Boston were doing something together..I was trippin' and knew it would lead to more. I was trippin' because you were taking one of my favorite all time vocalist and putting him with one of my fav all time bands..RIP Brad..

Once I quit thinking of "Corporate America" as a Boston CD and as just some new music, I started to like it. Some fresh grooves that my high school kids even liked.
