OT: "RAMBO" K I C K S ~ A S S ! ! !

As long as I've been waiting for this movie, and as stoked as I was after seeing Stallone's original teaser trailer, my expectations began to get lowered with the release of the first "official" trailer. The following trailers added a little more cheese and gloss, and I was afraid they were going to ruin what looked like one hell of a raw movie. Then today, I took a peek at RottenTomatoes.com, and noted the 27% positive rating (now up to 34%)... Also read a few non-spoilerish reviews, which were all over the map. A few people absolutely loved it, and some said it was slow with horrible dialog.

So I headed off today with lowered expectations.... but....

IT KICKED MAJOR ASS !!! I'm very difficult to please, but I have to say I agree with one reviewer who said that he couldn't imagine a Rambo fan not liking this film. This film is a fan's dream... No polish, and no cheese (though that's in the eye of the beholder, I guess). Much closer in tone to the original teaser trailer than any of the others... Absolutely raw and violent to the max...

The first two bombs Rambo drops are the F-bombs... haha! That's actually the first word that comes out of his mouth... :P He is one BITTER, ANGRY, PISSED OFF vet in this film!

I won't spoil anything, except to tell ya that I really dug the ending which should really surprise and appeal to all fans of the series. I'm damn sure seeing this again, probably tomorrow...

RAMBO RULES!!!

Nah...He finally comes out of the closet after years of denial and marries his gay lover in a beautiful ceremony, officiate by mayor Gavin Newsom, in downton San Francisco. Unfortunately, they're both run over by a runaway trolley, resulting in their immediate death.

He looks at a woman, at least I think he does... And you should know from the trailers, heroes never die -- they reload! :P

I will see it, oh yes I will.
I had a new addition yesterday, so that put the quash on opening day but I got both Philly dailys, the Daily Rag gave it a C+ with a front entertainment page special report on it that touched on the cringe-worthy violenc and The Inquirer gave it a "Zero" stars and called it the most violent film ever made....

That's only gonna drive the hype Sly wants :)

A new addition... like a new baby? If so, congrats!

The newspapers aren't getting it, obviously... I was incredibly pleasantly surprised, and most fans should be, if they aren't expecting it to be more than it is -- a very simple story with little (to no) humor, and some of the best war action I've ever seen. Saw one review where they said the action was "stock" and unimaginative, or something. Idiots... what are they looking for? There were several moments where I yelled out they were so great.

You are going to love it. Oh, another favorite part of the film for me was the mounting tension between Rambo and the ex-British SAS mercenary. Intense!!!

Oh, wow... I hate to say, but I think this one's completely inappropriate for kids. A very hard "R", due to the graphic violence (and assaults on women). And yes, the very first word that comes out of Rambo's mouth is the F-bomb... It wasn't overly gratuitous with the language (like every Rob Zombie film) -- I think it was all very appropriate for the setting, but they are a foul-mouthed bunch of mercenaries, for sure.

Often wondered if 'Rambo' will become another James Bond.
Does Rambo always have to be Stallone? Not necessarily.

Rocky should never, ever, be played by anyone but Stallone!

In most ways I kind of feel the same way about Rambo, but I might be able to eventually accept someone else as Rambo, maybe?

EON Productions should fire Daniel Craig and bring back Pierce Brosnan!

Gotta disagree this time... Stallone IS Rambo, and the character should be retired when Stallone gives it up. I would TOTALLY be up for another Stallone Rambo film, though.

Speaking of that though, the film was preceded by a trailer for some silly film called "The Son Of Rambow" (sic), about some British kids who film their own "Rambo" movie. :P

For the most part I agree about Rambo being played only by Stallone. Maybe 20 to 30 years from now they could bring in a new actor for the role? But yeah, it would be very hard for me to ever accept someone else in the role.

All said and done the 1st Rambo movie kicked major ass. It had a killer (no pun intended) atmosphere about it. I think the locals where the film was shot had a lot to do with that.

Big impact -- like getting knocked in the face with a shovel. Man, when he had that 50-cal going, it was insane!

I think what also made the 1st movie so cool was the feeling of "the prowl" where he stalked his pray. Combine that with the locals and it made for an awesome atmosphere. Does the new one have any of these elements ?

Oh, whoops -- misread and thought you had been talking about the new one. Yes, the new one has a few elements that reminded me of the original, such as them tracking him down with dogs. This film does not attempt the epic scope of II and III, but is more like the first in that it's a short series of events in a very limited geographical realm. Simple, to the point and very effective. Stallone is hoping to highlight the plight of the situation in Burma with this one, and I do hope people will look past the spectacle and see the message behind it.

Yeah, yeah. I remember as a kid all the fallout over Roger Moore taking Bond over from Sean Connery.
What would be the difference if someone else stepped in for a few Rambo flicks?

I just got home from seeing Rambo.

Wow, the movie kicks ass big time! I'm very happy with the film and highly recomend it to action movie fans.

It is EXTREMELY VIOLENT, so if you don't like a lot of blood and guts then you probably won't like it. But if that's not a problem for you, then I think you'll love the new Rambo film.
