OT: An Underdog's Second Chance - Some Good News

At last, maybe some good news from the entire Michael Vick crap.

Most of the dogs seized from the property are being cared for.

They were evaluated for being eligible for differant types of care.

As a result of those evaluations, many have allready been placed in loving foster homes.

Only a few had to be put down as a result of their injuries. One female had developed breast tumors from over-breeding and was too week to undergo surgery.

The remainder have been relocated to a Friends of Animals sanctuary in Utal. There, they will be socialized (human and animal compatability) and then re-evaluated for foster care and adoption.

It seems that the raid on Vick's property was the best thing to ever happen to them.

His back resting comfortably against her chest, Hector nestles his massive canine head into Leslie Nuccio’s shoulder, high-fiving pit bull paws against human hands.

The big dog — 52 pounds — is social, people-focused, happy now, it seems, wearing a rhinestone collar in his new home in sunny California.

But as Hector sits up, deep scars stand out on his chest, and his eyes are imploring.

Really cool to hear some good from this. Even for the ones that had to be put down, the raid was probably the best thing for them, too... The fighting finally stopped.

Thank you so much for letting us know that. I am so glad to hear that some of them could be saved. When he gets out of jail they should make him do his comminity service walking behind the horses picking up poo at parades. Or the elephants even. :)

Glad to hear it. I hope all of those dogs find good homes. Unfortunately, pit bulls tend to attract the wrong kind of owner.

This will haunt Vick forever. By the time he is able to rejoin the NFL, I don't think they will want him.

Fortunately the groups caring for them now have very strict adoption policies.

A friend of mine does foster care for dogs - she has taken care of several until they could be permanately placed.

She is a well-respected doctor in her community (Detroit) - beautiful home and kids - and she was investigated, she had to provide police clearance, letters of recommendation - it took a while, however she says it was all worth it.
