Saw it posted on another board, and glad you made that link work.... I guess that's from the CD! Gives me a new appreciation for what original vocal tracks sound like with the mix stripped away... :P

Here is the original article that had the link:

damn.... nice natural multi harmonics on some of those yelps. That's obviously Roth from what almost 30 years ago? I always thought some of those harmonics on his voice were post effects, but obviously they're not. Very impressive vocal work. All bs aside, the man could bring it vocally. And still doing a decent job as we speak! :)

See if the link works now. It's blocked at my work and it might only go to the site, not the specific file. But I can't tell.

This is really cool and it got me thinking what some of today's pitch-corrected messes would sound like if we could get some of those pre-processed vocal tracks extracted for our listening pleasure. It'd be fun to listen to. DLR might not have the best technical voice in history, but at least what you heard is what you got.

Yeah, that was pretty cool and kinda funny to hear the untouched vocal line. Still, it's obviously DLR.

It shows just how much of a genuis Don Landee was. There's alot of vocal mistakes in that track....little nuances you can't hear from the mixed down track...Frankly, I thought that performance was less than stellar....

I think the narative from the original link to be pure bullshit. Nothing was greater than sammy fronted VH.

OMG I'm dying! SO funny!!!!

I think I pissed myself when he blew the whistle!! LMAO!!!

On a serious note, this separate track shows me what a weak vocalist Roth always was. Pure showman, pure attitude, which worked with their simplistic approach to song writing back then, but very little talent in the singing category. I think Ed has moved beyond these kinds of songs today, so if they're planning on new music with the man, his short comings are really going to stand out.

Bring back Sammy after the nostalgia tour is over. He's ten times the talent of Roth.

LOL! Yeah, what was that? Can that be heard in the song? I also never realized he said "G.D.", either... I'm assuming someone isolated the actual vocals from the song itself, becuase there are programs out there that can do it (and you can hear the music in the background). It's like the reverse of removing the lead vox from a track.

I have loads of isolated vocal tracks but sadly not much in the way of rock (save for some Judas Priest) so thanks for the link! Diamond Dave sounds really wheezy especially on the 'screams'/yelps and more than a little like Ozzy Osbourne. Cool stuff.

Here's a YouSendIt link for anyone that wants to download it.

This is no faked isolated track using software or filters. There is not a single tool out there that will strip out a vocal track this far down. What you do hear of the other instruments is coming through his headphones and getting picked up by his vocal mic. This is the raw vocal track as it would have sounded right after it was recorded. Would love to know how someone got this because I would love to hear Eddies tracks like this...

Wow -- very interesting! My boss has a home studio and recently took classes, and he asked about how to protect against headphone bleed into the vocal track, and said a few pros told him, "Doesn't matter... No one will notice." Apparently that's quite common to hear on a vocal track.

Without listening, I do think that's in the song but I can't remember for sure without listening to it.

I didn't, either, until I heard this.

I think you're right.

Drummer, you should post some of those stripped down Perry tracks from TBF you were talking about. I'd love to hear what that sounds like. Hell, I'd love to hear what any of his stripped down vocals sounds like, especially from the early years.

the beach boys box set featured a bonus cd that if you adjusted the fader to the right all you heard was vocals, very nice to listen to.

The first time I ever listened to RWTD on headphones I noticed the whistle, but I thought all these years that it was just a cool EVH guitar slide/effect. Sweetness.
