Arnel on youtube- this time acapella

It's a long interview that talks about his tough life growing up but at the 3:45 mark you get a snippet of DSB and then a follow of OA. He sounds great and the diction issue that some have complained about doesn't sound like an issue at all.

Take a listen and see if you agree. 8)

I'm sold. The funny thing is, he sings, I stop in awe and listen, fully blown away, then they play that Perry guy, and it's 10 times better.

Sounded great. I did hear slight diction issues that I'm quite certain will be alleviated when he is fully immersed in touring and no longer really allowed to speak anything but English. Looking forward to seeing TWO shows in Vegas.  8)

Arnel will bring back the "heritage" sound that Journey is famous for. As Cain said, "With Arnel’s soaring tenor, Journey returns to our heritage sound."

Doesn't look like Perry is coming back anytime soon, so they may as well move forward and try to make some more magic without him.

Yeh a few dictation issues but im not concerned, all wil be fine when he starts talking in English practically all the time during touring.

Cant wait!

Can't beat the OG Original Gangster but I like the sound Arnel has. He is passionate about this, he truly is.

I'd translate the interview but man it'd take forever.

OH and Nicole is fricken' HOT 8)

You're going to BOTH Vegas shows? Lucky bastard. I expect updates from both of them!

Well if we are looking at the same clip the only part I understood was when he sang "Open Arms"

Well, it was good to finally put a face to the name of his prick manager De Leon...

As far as diction goes, there are still issues that I hear....it seems to me, based on ticket availability in Las Vegas, I'm not the only one with concerns...

Whatevs dude

Keep clowning them...ya can't stop them or us from wanting to appreciate them. Despite your extensive vocabulary, you keep on opening your mouth and inserting your foot in it. So how really does a person look shifty...is it because he wears glasses? 8)

Oh that's right he's not allowed to have his own opinion. Why don't cheerlead exclusively at BT Tool!

I was actually less impressed with that a capella stuff than some of the other clips I've seen. The language stuff was VERY noticeable when he couldn't accurately enunciate "street" while singing DSB.

He has a boyish cuteness about him. He has an innocent look, hopefully he isn't naive about the task he has ahead of him.

Lets no go down the route of name calling and fighting. This forum has been very peaceful until now. Just because certain things are said about this forum elsewhere does not mean we have to retaliate, as we are perfectly happy with our part of the world - right?

Just offering my opinion...I'm allowed to do that. If you're going to wax poetic on Exotic Journey while they destroy this band and it's legacy, I'm going to make sure that I'm here to remind you that I told you so! Just wait, it'll take about 6 months...I'll be willing to bet you wont even be online by that point or will have changed your identity to shield your shame.

Don't point at me Andrew. I would let the newbie know that anti-Arnel sentiment is allowed here just like all the pro-Arnel stuff. If he doesn't want to brawl he should just shut up. Respectfully and IMHO. I'm out!

The fact that the show wasn't promoted probably accounts for that. I think they're doing this right. Putting him in front of a largely casual audience for his first public U.S. date is smart. I never got the "ticket sales" argument. I'm going and that's all I really give a shit about. Some people judge concerts by attendance (and I'm not implying you do), I judge them by substance. That is to be seen.

I've heard highschool soloists that could put him to shame. He's good, but he's not good enough to be great. You have to be great to replace Perry.

Cheif - no doubt mate. Speak your mind here withotu fear. I'm still not sold on Arnel either and this latest YouTube doesn't push me any further in that direction.
I'm still hanging on for the JSS reunion :)

My only general point was that I don't want to give others that love to bitch about the tone of this place any additional ammunition. I see it didn't take long for that to happen, so my hope is that we here will rise above that.
I think here folks can state what they feel straight out and don't need to use a passive aggresive style to push opinions.

I agree. Freedom of speech shall never be lopped off here. Agree or disagree, let the posters police themselves.

While I'll agree in principle that maybe keeping it low key is a good idea....

I'm not sure what promotion you expect? It's a vegas show....anyone here from Vegas that can attest to no promotion? If I were the backer of the show, I'd have a hard time agreeing to the show not being promoted. I suspect in Vegas, the show is being promoted apropriately. I also question, if no/little promotion is being employed, why they would do that if they are filming the show for a DVD? That seems rediculously reckless to me.

Moving onto the judging thing. I'm not suggesting that the concert be judged by concert attendance, but it's definitely a leading indicator on the current draw ability of this band. We're not talking about whether an individual tom, dick or harry is going to like Arnel in this band. They can judge that on their own. This is ALL about whether or not the band can support a certain attendance level when booking a date in a city with 2.5 months to go.

By comparison, I can't get a 2 seats together for VH at MSG in NYC in mid march. The show is about as close to sold out as you can imagine. Same time frame, drastically different draw. I guess having a band with it's original singer = ticket sales. replacement singer != ticket sales.

And Jeremey is great? If I recall, you advocated him being the replacement.

Great points, Frank. We'll see how much of the 7,000 person venue they fill. I'll get back to you on that.

Yup, I did and for a reason, but that has nothing to do with Arnel.

You think Jeremey is great and can replace Perry, but Arnel cannot?

This is no slam on Hunsicker at all, but you need to wipe the crud from your eyes. LOL.
