OT: Current Jethro Tull

Has anyone here seen Jethro Tull in recent years? I have seen the videos and it looks like Anderson's voice is totally shot (plus apparently now they do some artsy version of Aqualung). Is it still worth seeing? They are coming to Jones Beach this summer, and I was gonna get tickets for my mom for Mother's Day (she loves em), but if they suck these days, I might pass.

Jethro Tull's music has never been about the vocals in the first place, so I would have no qualms seeing them regardless of the state of Anderson's voice.

Tull will always be the biggest joke in the history of music after that looney Anderson and the guys won the "Metal album of the year"...that fruitcake dancing around on once foot, playing the flute in his "finest metal moment"...brings tears to my eyes.

Seriously, pretty good music, but I don't like them enough to pay to see 'em.

I saw them a fews years back and fell asleep in my seat. Anderson was playing the show in a wheel chair and yes his voice is shot.

Jethro Tull was the biggest joke in musical history before the metal album of the year award. Aqualung is one of the dumbest songs I've ever heard and no rock band should EVER have flute or any other instrument like that. Chicago is the only exception, their horn section blends in well.

Damn, all you did was show how limited your own musical scope is. You NEED to check out rock that incorporates instruments aside from the usual guitar, bass, keyboards and drums. This reminds me of this one fool who wrote (not on this message board) that "bass solos are just wrong!"

That's one of the bands I absolutely hate.

Rock and roll is about breaking the rules, which Jethro Tull did on a regular basis. I guess they should've just followed the standard guitar, bass, and drums formula, eh?

Is Kansas a joke as well because they incorporated a violin? How about Emerson, Lake & Palmer for being so keyboard heavy? Led Zeppelin for using a mandolin in "The Battle of Evermore" and a few other exotic instruments in other tunes? King Crimson?

I think you will find the music is like it is because the band draw off Scottish folk tradition,as well as other areas of music, and of course some of the work comes out a bit jazz, a bit prog rock, a bit Folky.... even if Ian Anderson's voice is shot, he doesn't have to worry being the Laird of a Scottish Estate up in the Grampians , it's not like he relies on his music as his main source of income...it's probably more pleasure than business now:) his estate isn't far from Glen Livet where I go to stay when I can get up there... :?

Talk about close-mindedness. What about metal bands playing with symphonies? Dream Theater's "Octavarium" (the song) has a beautiful flute passage in addition to some seriously metal and rock moments. Why would you limit your ears like this?

Where would Young Grasshopper be without his flute? Where would H.R. Pufnstuf be without his?

Keep laughing whilst Ian Anderson counts his money and polishes his Grammy award. Best metal album indeed, what a joke!

I'm certain Ian Anderson KNOWS they didn't deserve that Grammy and they had NO power over even being nominated for it much less winning.

He definately knows they didn't deserve it but money talks and I bet a fair bit was exchanged to broker this bizzare deal. Just for the record I like some early Tull.

I was laughing at the sheer ignorance in that statement. Come on, look at my username. I dig the Tull.

Please read my ENTIRE post. Talk about being paraphrased or misquoted. Geez. Look at the context of my statement.

Dude...H.R.'s fingers were too chubby to play a flute, unless it's his own skinflute.
