I came across this info against bottled water and wondered what your take on it is. I drink both and don't like when I go to certain cafes and they require you buy their bottled at hiked up prices.

Think Outside the Bottle Pledge
- Because water is a human right and not a commodity to be bought and sold for profit;
- Because bottled water corporations are changing the very way people think about water and undermining people's confidence in public water systems;
-
Because up to 40% of bottled water in the U.S. and Canada is sourced from municipal tap water;
- Because some bottlers have run over communities' concerns and the environment when they extract water and build bottling plants to get local spring and ground water;
- Because bottled water travels many miles from the source, results in the burning of massive amounts of fossil fuels, and contributes to the billions of plastic bottles ending up in our landfills;
- Because worldwide there is a need for investments in public water systems to ensure equal access to water, a key ingredient for prosperity and health for all people; and
- Because solutions to ensuring water as a fundamental human right require people acting together and standing up for public water systems,

Chicago has the cleanest tap water in the country so I roll with it. However, even though "well water" is ok for you I'm not sure how them fucking Indiana hillbillies drink that shit. Can't speak for the rest of the country, though.

Water is water, kids. Two hydrogens, one oxygen. Unless you're in a third world country or a public swimming pool, you're alright.

My water comes from a well and we have to soften it with salt, so not good.

We ship in the Ozarka!

Hobart's natural tap water is fresh off the mountain, clean, clear and cold. Beautiful...

Tap water is fine with me, unless I'm in a place that has a nasty looking water fountain. I used to drink it out of the garden hose when I was a kid.
Another underlying problem that is beginning to exist is people are increasingly going antibacterial. That's fine, but one day a couple of generations down the road, there will be a general strength bacteria that will kill off a bunch of people. If you choose to live by using antibacterial soaps and such, thinking you're keeping yourself from getting sick, you may be right for now. Your immune system will not have an opportunity to build resistances to anything until it is exposed to it. That's why kids are sicker now than when I was young. All they do is stay inside and play video games or do what I'm doing now. They don't interact with other kids as much and are not exposed to germs that can ultimately lead to a stronger immune system.
Antibiotics are just adding to the problem. Bacteria are growing stronger every year as a result of antibiotics. How? Well let's say you have a bacterial infection and you are prescribed antibiotics. If any bacteria survive at all, it will definitely be the strongest ones. They infect another human and multiply, and what do you have? A harder to kill infection.
Drink tap water and don't overuse antibiotics.

I grew up on well water in the beautimous Virginia mountains. Best stuff on the planet. My water kicks everyone else's water's ass.

How about if they filter toilet water like they're gonna start doing in California? What's the chemical makeup of poo?

What about the conditions of the piping system going from point A to point B. Just because someone lives in a nice neighborhood, might not necessarily mean it's acceptable underground.
I work with this sort of stuff. Go into chemical plants all the time. What I've seen will make you think twice. I live a distance away from the plants but I'm not willing to trust the piping system/soil in the area of said plants. I drink bottled spring water.

For most of this country's population? C6H12O6...

(That's a carbohydrate to you non-nerds.)

Found this about the best drinking water from tap
"The Fifty Cleanest Cities in America." Its final list was based on a number of factors, including drinking water quality. Here are the cities that scored a perfect 50 points for water quality:
Portland, San Jose, Buffalo, Columbus, San Francisco, Denver, San Diego, Sacramento, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, and Riverside (CA

In this case isn't the problem the public water system in the area? Isn't it regulated to meet some health standard?

The EPA and OSHA are a total farce. If they did their job, there would be hardly any pollution coming out of chemical plants. I'm not talking about water treatment plants, I'm talking about oil & chemical plants that pollute the environment. You should see some of the nasty shit I see in these chemical plants. Stuff that affect the bay, water system, ground water, soil, air, etc. The EPA and OSHA visit these plants very seldom. Way too much crap for them to even fix the tip of the iceberg.
The EPA goes after cars to make sure their tailpipes are up to snuff. But yet most of these chemical plants are "grandfathered" under ancient laws. And they're the ones doing most of the polluting. Not the cars on the road.

Reminded me of story from filming of "The African Queen"
Even though bottled water was brought in, boiled and treated with halazone tablets, people still got sick. The only two people who seemed to be immune were John Huston and Humphrey Bogart. “Bogie and I never got sick,” wrote Huston in his autobiography, “
possibly because we always drank scotch.”

Big article in this month's Reader's Digest on this... Bottled water is one of the biggest scams around. Sure, some good stuff out there, but lots of brands were proven to be not even as good as municipal tap water (many of these were brands by the big cola companies -- Aquafina was named, I think). Several brands also were nothing more than bottled tap water.
My wife won't drink regular water anymore, and it's foolish. She says she hates the taste, but she's just been brainwashed. I'm still working on her.

When she's not looking, empty out all of her bottled water and replace it with tap water-then after she's finished all of the "bottled" water, break it to her!

I'VE DONE THAT A FEW TIMES!!! (only I drank the water... no way I'm pouring money down the drain.. ). She didn't know the difference.

I voted bottled, but only because I don't drink tap, not because I use bottled. I'll explain:
When I lived in New York, I would only drink the tap water. Some of the best water in the country out there.
I choke on the urine that comes from the faucets in Southern California (and Nevada for that matter), but I don't use bottled water, per se. I go to a place that purifies the tap water for 25 cents a gallon.

Rick, you are absolutely right. I've been telling people this for years! You should let your natural immune system take care of most things. That's why we have it. There are certain things we need to take antibiotics for but not every time you get the sniffles! These companies that advertise and make antibiotic soaps and handwash are brainwashing people into believing there are germs just waiting to kill you on everything you touch. They have you believing that if you touch your shopping cart you'll get the plague. It's ridiculous and it's actually hurting us, not helping.
About the tap water issue. I do drink bottled/filtered water because our tap water here tastes like shit. If it tasted decent I wouldn't have a problem drinking tap water.

A few years ago, I bought a new Brita filter pitcher... it came with some teabags (don't, Rhi... just... don't

no visuals ) and it said to use a clear mug, make one cup of tea with the filters water and one with the tap water and compare. So I did it. And that was the day I stopped drinking tap water. This was in Arizona, though. I haven't done that test since. So yes I drink tap but I prefer to filter it.
