No news leaking from rehearsals?

One would think that someone out there has heard something from Journey, no? I trust Kevin Shirley's enthusiasm with the project and the way the band is playing overall right now, but I'd love to see a video "leak." As someone else mentioned, those intended leaks can generate a lot of great buzz. Especially in the case where those involved think things are better than they've been in a long time.

My guess is they don't want to take away from the impact of the first listen or first hand excitement of the first shows. Leaks can possibly generate buzz, but with this band, you know that any leak (even with Perry at the helm) would generate more contraversy than good press. My take is that they want the new lineup and material to stand on its own. Though Vegas wouldn't seem the best venue to introduce the new singer - Vegas has this thing it does to singers called Vegas throat. It's never really the best of any show when a band is on the road. Logistically though I guess it was the best possible place to film.

Good points. I don't like Vegas either -- keep thinking of the Augieri-era DVD and the less than enthusiastic crowd up front (and empty seats). Would think an intimate theater filled with true fans would be much better.

I've been thinking this same thing ever since they announced that gig. Dang, throw the guy in the deep end...

Can you please expand on what "Vegas throat" is? I'm curious.

It's dry there, evidently Augeri came down with it rehearsing in Vegas on the Main Event tour and it stuck with him.

Gotcha. I would hope 2 shows wouldn't be a big deal. Especially since he has a long layoff immediately following those 2 gigs. Can't they humidify those venues at least a little? :?

Since Vegas is in the desert, it's been a rough place for singers and entertainers since the beginning of time. The zero humidity will zap all moisture and lubrication from your vocal cords and your mucus membranes dry up. That also leaves a good potential for throat and sinus infections. People like Celine and Elton that have regular gigs there have humidifiers built into their stages and dressing rooms, etc. Touring singers typically have to do the best they can....Since Arnel will be coming from a subtropical climate, I would think it'd be extra tough to get used to for him. Not the best scenario for a DVD, especially one filmed the night after a corporate gig...Just an odd place to make a singers debut.

Thanks. You would think that every venue would have "built in" humidifiers. Does anyone know if Planet Hollywood's theatre does or doesn't?

I remember reading somewhere that Celine actually has weather control on the stage at the Colosseum! It's not simply a built-in humidifier,it's an entire system that keeps a constant percent of humidity and heat, plus silent ventilators in front of her that keep her throat from drying while she sings.

Sure, all this is not for the singers/bands passing through LV,but I'm sure that Journey could ask for proper conditions (humidifiers) on stage the night they'll be recording.

Just for the fun of it...There's a recent article with Bette Midler who's going to start a 2 year engagement at the Colosseum/Caesar's Palace,as Celine's contract is over.

http://www.bootlegbetty.com/2008/02/06/miss-m-makes-usa-today/

Celine Dion's advice to Bette Midler regarding singing in Vegas:

Curled up on a living room sofa, Midler recalls Dion telling her, ” ‘It’s a great gig, but there are pitfalls.’ And thank God she told me, ’cause I was a babe in the woods.”

Midler had heard frightening tales of the desert’s dry heat causing a dreaded condition known as “Las Vegas throat,” so she has carefully heeded Dion’s advice before relocating from New York City. “She gave me all her doctors’ (phone numbers),” says Midler. “She said, ‘Don’t talk during the day,’ and told me, ‘Beware of the wind.’ She had humidification built under the stage and into this dressing room. She cranked it. It was like the Amazon in here, and I intend to keep it the same.”

Multiple thermostats and a vaporizer tucked in a corner are some of the aids that will help this 62-year-old showgirl go on night after night.

“We’ve got vaporizers everywhere,” she concedes.

There were other concerns: “I was afraid of where I was going to go to run around. I was afraid of the heat. But this is the gig,” she fearlessly proclaims. “I’m going to do it, and it’s going to be great!
