Do you plan to buy Journey's re-recorded classics album?

There has been a lot of discussion on this topic, so I thought I'd create a poll to see how many Journey fans actually plan to buy the supposed upcoming release of classic Journey hits with Steve Perry's vocals replaced with those of the new singer, Arnel Pineda.

I'm guessing that the majority of Journey fans are like the majority of Bon Jovi fans - they like the music, but even moreso, they like the lead singer. If Jon Bon Jovi died or quit the band and Richie Sambora hired a new lead singer to replace Jon and then went into the studio and re-recorded all of Bon Jovi's classic hits, do you think Bon Jovi fans would flock to the stores to buy the new CD just to support the new version of Bon Jovi? Is that a fair analogy of what Journey has done?

Where did you read that? Most insiders around here and elsewhere have confirmed that Journey has already finished recording the project.

I said yes but with the caveat that there be new material included with the package.

I was going to add that as an option, but I felt like the project deserved to get a vote on its own merit. To me that is like tossing pork barrel project add-ons into a congressional bill and having to vote all or nothing, even if legislators don't like some of the add-ons.

Totally.
I refuse to support such a ridiculous decision.

I own Infinity through TBF, if I want to hear those songs.

I'm guessing there will be a two disc release, one new and one re recorded.

Hell yes I will listen. I want to see if and how much they doctored the thing to rival Perry's renditions. You know they won't release something terrible where fans will applaud Perry.

This ought to motivate SP like no other. He should be releasing his own solo CD the same day.

I am all for a new release but not the re recorded one. Man, bad bad move.

My feelings exactly. I would buy a new CD of original material, but if its packaged with the re-recorded Journey classics, I won't buy it. I simply couldn't sponsor something like that.

The recorded classics will be used for promos, I doubt they will be sold. Unless they are live recordings. But otherwise like any music I hear, if I like it I will buy it.

Definitely not interested in that.

Here's another question: Will the general public have any interest in buying the re-recorded Journey classics?

Sure, a few hardcore Neal Schon fans from a Journey forum might buy a re-recorded version of Journey classics with a new soundalike singer just to support Neal and the guys - but how will the general public react to it?

no.. GH by arnel... only new music---the claassics only if it is packaged with the new cd and and the classics from the live tour. i wish they would have done that with augeri and arrival.
but probably could not do that then.

Ditto to both of you.............just not interested. Already have all the songs, and they can't get any better than the original. :)

I'm not buying re-recorded classics from anyone unless they're re-recorded by the originating artist.

I'm also not buying the new material without hearing it first.

If the new material comes packaged with the GH's recordings, even if I like what I hear on the new stuff, I'm still not buying it on principle. I'll wait until the new stuff becomes available on iTunes and purchase individual tracks (again, if I like them).

A few casual fans who remember hearing the hits on the radio in their youth might pick it up just out of curiosity and nostalgia if it's promoted and displayed promenently, and they have the extra money. Most people who are real fans of the music already own the Real Journey GH CD so I can't see many of them buying the knock-off unless it's in the bargain bin and/or they're just curious about it. I don't think any will buy it for the new stuff. They don't either. They're counting on the familiar song titles to attrack attention so they can foist the other stuff off with it and count it all as sales figures for the new stuff.

They're pathetic.

No, it's a moot analogy.
Bogiovi is the founder of Bon Jovi, not Sambora. No JBJ, no BJ.

Okay, let's use another analogy then. How about the Rolling Stones? Brian Jones was the band's founder. What if Mick Jagger died or quit the band, and the remaining members hired a new lead singer to replace Mick and then went into the studio and re-recorded all of the Rolling Stones classic hits, do you think Rolling Stones fans would flock to the stores to buy the new CD just to support the new version of the Rolling Stones?

Apples and oranges...

First of all, Journey changes singers like Schon changes wives.

Second, at least Journey's past singers sounded better than JBJ does.

Third, Richie wouldn't need to hire a singer, because he already smokes JBJ! :P However, if Richie chose to re-record the BJ classics using either his own voice (preferred) or someone else's, I'd sure as hell buy it!! Image 8) Hell, Jaded Heart with Bormann did a better Jovi than even JBJ does! Image :P

Journey, on the other hand, gets no more money from me in that department... EVER! I can go see several "LIVE" Journey tribute acts for a much better price, why would I need to purchase a self-tributing tribute album from the original musicians???

Maybe I should have asked, "How many of you would sponsor terrorism before you would sponsor Journey's re-recording of the classics with a new soundalike singer?"

If they will release the re-recorded hits separately on a CD,I'm not interested to buy it.I have the original songs/CDs with Steve Perry on vocals, thankyouverymuch.

But I guess they will release the re-recordings in a package with the new material...Oh well.I'm too curious to hear the new CD,so I'll buy the package.
The re-recordings will land in my "what-was-I-thinking?" box of dusty CDs. :|

I agree with JoePa here. No JBJ, no Bon Jovi. Agree, but for a different reason. From a personal preference stand point...........I'm not really concerned who founded the band. My favorite instrument is the "human voice". So most of my musical enjoyment is based around that. Sure there are musicians that blow me away on their instruments too. Neal Schon, Rudy Sarzo, Marco, oh heck......way too many to mention. But I would say at least a good 80 percent of my choice in liking a band comes from whether I like the lead vocals or not.
