the time3 box set by journey is a very good box set.i bought it the day it was released and its one of the best ones musically i've ever bought.wouldn't it be cool if journey released another box set with some rare recordings, different outtakes, live versions of songs not played much, maybe some rare video footage, etc. i think it would sell great.

Why?
What's left?

Time3 has EVERYthing essential, at least from the classic era. To me, boxsets are supposed to be exactly what Journey's is. Capturing not every note ever recodred, but rather all the hits and then the album cuts, unreleased songs and demos so that you can figure out what the band was all about withOUT having to play every recorded note (which I love doing as well, BTW).

Post perry it would be superfluous; there's not enough material.

Kind of agree with you there. I would much rather see them put out another classic era dvd. ROR or Departure would be GREAT! :D

I DO think they should do what Rush did with Replay and release a 3 disk DVD set with the Departure, Frontiers, and ROR tours. Ya wanna add Escape in there?? Go ahead...but the ones I mentioned 1st are the ones fans have been waiting for over 20 years.

Don't forget the good "Easter Eggs" though. ;-)

EDIT: Rush takes care of their fans though...they don't fuck 'em over. So this will probably never happen.

I forgot about the easter eggs!..I've only watched it once since I got it. I'll have to watch it again and try to find the eggs.

Yeah. It does. But even though Time3 has all the Essentials, they still went ahead a few years later and released The Essential Journey which has one whole CD less than T3, thus negating it's own title. Someone was not too smart the day that name was picked.

Easter Eggs are hidden little bonus features that are in a lot of dvd's, video games, music, TV, books, in art...

here's a site that explains it and archives where they are in multi media, ..
www.eeggs.com

I haven't looked for the eggs in Rush's Replay yet but did find them in Rush in Rio....heres a description of where they are in that dvd...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rush_in_Rio_(video)

as far as Journey ..not that I'm aware of but the new stuff may very well have them...you'd be surprised how many things do now.

Um... I could just be imagining things, but I thought I remember reading a question about easter eggs in the Q&A that was done around the time the Houston dvd came out... Or maybe it was another interview? But I THINK someone asked if there were any and I THINK the answer was no. Anyone recall this or did I have a daydream?

I don't doubt that one of you is at the ready to whip out a link on this. Let's have it. LOL! :D

I was just thinking about this the other day. Kiss had a VH1 classic special for Kissology 2, narrated by Stanley and Simmons. Kissology 2 covers just about every little thing they had contained in their video vaults. I'd love to buy a similar collection of Journey material (Perry era).

I'd also like to hear all the demos and out takes too. I seem to recall on the Tom Snyder show, Jon Cain mentioned he used to run a tape deck during rehearsals to record spontaneous nuggets they might later use and develop into songs. I'd love to hear that stuff.

If Kiss can do this, why not Journey? Unless Perry is still holding it back.

I was just going to post the same thing. There are 3 distinct eras of Journey and there could be a 3 or 4 volume collection released. A buddy and I were talking about it this weekend and I do know that there was talk a few years back of trying to release a 3 DVD set similar, but what KISS has done is incredible. For Journey, Vol. 1 would obviously be the pre-Perry era through Robert Fleischman. It could include the Crater concert that Robert has a bit of on his site. Behind the scenes footage of recording and touring. Any other live stuff, any TV appearances and commentary by Neal and Ross. Vol. 2 could be from the addition of Perry through Captured and Gregg's 'departure'. Again, include commentary, TV appearances, videos, interviews, behind the scenes stuff and end with a Departure-era concert. Vol. 3 would be Escape through TBF for sure. Behind the scenes recording and touring. Throw an ROR concert in there. Add commentary from Jon with Neal and Ross. Make sure it includes something from the Chalfant, Rollie reunion before Perry came on board. That would be worth the price right there. This would likely be the largest volume with more videos, TV appearances, etc. Vol. 4 would include the Augeri era, getting Journey rolling again. Add commentary from Deen on this one. And they of course could include AP and a concert of his like the Vegas show coming up. If done right, there could be interviews/commentary with all the past members. My buddy was saying on the KISSOLOGY there is even an interview with Peter Criss AFTER he was fired. He was still technically under contract so he could not show his face and he was giving the PR that he 'left' the band. But Gene went on record that he and Paul fired him. Gene says he didn't want it misrepresented! How huge is that??

We know Journey has a vault. We know the stuff could be collected. Hell, they could put a call out to all the old fans who collect EVERYTHING. It could be done!!

i think time3 covered most of the unreleased(excluding outtakes/alt versions) i know that the superstars sessions(good times came from these) would be nice to have .
a 2/3 dvd set with the departure/ROR/frontiers full concerts
or the chicago solider field show.
with the soundstage stuff.
all this stuff could be done thru the website to keep profits up.

Is that still in effect? Or did it expire along with the GH's recording issue?

Things that make you go, Hmmmmmm....
