OT: Could this week get any worse?

Postby jrnychick » Thu Feb 14, 2008 1:58 am

Yes, the week could get worse, but I need to vent!

Friday night we got a new puppy. We had one of our dogs put down a few weeks ago, and our one remaining dog was very lonely. I was also really missing my big lap dog! Well anyone who has ever had a puppy knows how much the first few weeks with a puppy suck. This little guy is pretty smart, and he really seems to be getting the house breaking thing pretty quickly. I think we've turned that corner already. Saturday night was my daughter's 8th birthday party. NEVER AGAIN will I have her party at my house! Some of the kids were completely obnoxious. As I used to teach elementary school, I don't put up with any BS. So we had crazy kids running all over the house plus a new puppy. We had my cousins' daughters sleep over, and the girls didn't get to bed until 2am. Nuts. Then we had the family party at our house. I had had about 4 hours sleep over 2 nights between the dog and the kids. On Monday, we woke up to my daughter running into our bedroom because she didn't feel well. It was then that we realized that the power was out. It was -2 outside. My daughter ended up puking in our bed and on our carpet. Since the power was out, we couldn't get the sheets into the wash right away. My poor husband had to clean up puke and dog crap within about a 15-minute time frame. My husband went to work, and my daughter puked again but mostly hit the bucket. The power didn't come back on until after 11:00am. The pipes in our downstairs bathroom were frozen, but at least they didn't burst. By late afternoon, my daughter was all better and I was sick. I am still sick with the flu. Luckily I'm not puking. One of the little rugrats at the party on Saturday ended up having strep, so I'm going to the doctor this afternoon. I didn't work at all on Tuesday. I'm trying to get a few things done for work today before I konk out. I can't sleep because I have to keep an eagle eye on the puppy at all times. Ugh.

Oh man....

That does suck.

It will pass, but that really sucks big time. Having a new puppy is like having a new baby - those first few weeks are honestly exhausting.

Sorry about the loss of your big lap dog. :(

Thanks! Mastodon (shepherd/retriever/God knows what else mix) was my "baby" before I had a baby. He definitely loved me more than anyone else in the family. Now we have Coco (lab/retriever) who is my daughter's dog. He's 110lbs of pure love. If anyone broke into our house, he would probably lick them to death! The new puppy is Zeus. He's a lab mixed with something else, but we don't know what. He'll probably be big, but not as big as Coco. He really is a sweetheart and seems pretty smart. He's just into mischief all the time like any other puppy. My husband has started calling him "Devil Dog" or "Trouble."

You should have gotten a Boxer..Just awesome dogs..I've had 3,so I'm not biased at all. :) But the 1st one was gift from God..Long story, but he was beaten and starving when my aunt brought him over..We didn't even know what he was,had to go to the library to find out..They weren't popular back then..My parents had tons of dogs growing up,but Brutus the Boxer was the best..Now,I'm on my 3rd one..Sampson..he is 3..He is my best buddy :) The other 2 dying crushed me! :(
