Since Perry isn't up to the gig, Arnel is.

When Steve Augeri first stepped up to the plate, people freaked.

When JSS stepped up to the plate, people freaked.

When Arnel stepped up to the plate, people freaked.

When Burger King got rid of the Whopper, people freaked.

Let's face it - people freaking makes the world go around. It gives people purpose in life. This forum thrives on people freaking about the drama surrounding Journey and their lead singers. It's like a soap opera. It provides debate. But no publicity is bad publicity, right?

The big picture is that Journey goes on. Their current singer sounds more like Perry than anybody since Perry. If you want to hear Perry-era Journey, this could be the best chance you may ever get. I don't blame Neal or Jon for wanting to keep the Perry era alive. It's either that, or they go in a completely new direction and say goodbye to the Perry era. Is everybody really ready to do that? Are you ready to say goodbye to the Whopper? Will you freak if it is gone?

Since Perry isn't up to the gig, Arnel is. I say it's all good. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

I have never had a Whopper nor a Big Mac. So, no, I wouldn't freak out if it was gone. :P
Great post. Dead on. People thrive on having something to bitch about. (Me included, sometimes!!)

"Their current singer sounds more like Perry than anybody since Perry." I think it's more along the lines of "he sings the classics better than anyone since Perry". I disagree that he sounds like Perry. He doesn't have very many Perry'isms at all. The more I hear him sing Journey, the less I think of Perry and the more I think of Arnel. Hard to explain, but I don't get at all a vibe that he's "trying" to sound like Perry.

Now if he starts singing "I'll do all this and so much more"a"...if you just.." then I'll start saying he's trying to emulate Perry, but at this point he's making the songs all his own, which is what he needs to do. ;)

Good post, dude. However, I'm going to try to refrain from using the phrase "Perry era" as it minimizes the contributions of the other members. Instead, I'll either use "classic lineup" or "the band's most popular incarnation." Lastly, had Journey wanted to replicate Perry's voice, Hunsicker would be singing. Instead, they chose a singer that can do the old songs justice and allow them to move forward with a different vocal style. Having heard a clip of the new stuff I can assure you that no one will mistake Arnel for Perry. They will, however, be blown away by the power of his voice and his ability to reach vocal heights Perry couldn't past 1983 or so. 8)

100% CORRECT.

But then who gets blamed for having a forum that allows people to get their freak on, in whatever way they desire?

Bah.

I'm sure you get your share of pressure for letting people freak the fuck out on here Andrew. But it's the right thing to do bro. This board polices itself pretty good - with a little help from you. I'm sure it would be much more work if you censored everyone for freaking out, like some forums do.

We need to make a YouTube "People Freaked" video for Journey changing its lead singers. That would be fucking awesome.

How about using the phrase that Jon Cain uses, the "legacy" sound:

“He’s got the legacy sound and then some,” Jonathan Cain was quoted as saying.

YES!!! - The Whoppers been replaced by the SCARAB burger. It has been described as such:

The component parts of the sandwich- the lettuce , cheese and onions dont get along with the meat (the meat never really feels part of the burger) and the recipe for the meat is changed every few months without consulting the loyal customer base. "Have it our 39 different ways or no way "is the burgers new marketing theme.

The propieters of the once world famous burger shack claim it tastes better than ever, but its no longer 100% beef ,but infact is a cheap imitation of the orginal sandwhich.

When eating the sandwich "live" at burger king, its best to drink 36 beers before hand so you can fool yourself into thinking it tastes better than it ever did.!!

I always thought it sounded like "mo-wah" :D But I agree that I don't hear Perry with Arnel, I just hear a good voice singing the songs.

I didn't hear Perry with Augeri or JSS, either, just guys who loved the music and could sing it (JSS moreso than others! - yeah, I liked his take on the "classics")

Hopefully it's coming to it's correct 'target weight'. I simply cannot BELIEVE the size of food servings when I go out. Who the hell needs ALL that food? My wife and I were sitting in a mall courtyard eating the other night. We split a hamburger and a coke and fries. Next to us were two ladies and their daughter. They had VERY full plates. Overflowing actually. The two women also had about 300 pounds hanging over their chairs. Also overflowing. The little girl with them, had to be about 11. She must've weighed 175 lbs.

What the hell are people thinking? Their daughter is going to get crap in school not to mention have health problems.

A leader of what - a rebellion? A leader of people bitching? Hell, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. I'm tired of defending Steve Perry. He can defend himself if he ever gets out of the house again. He may be my all-time favorite singer, but I can't blame Journey for moving on and trying to bank on their past successes again. I guess if you don't like them, don't give them any more money.
