Outstanding job, but some here wouldn't approve of their "stage presence."

That guy can sing! Nice, original take on the song, without destroying it, and keeping its integrity intact!

GREAT job! Great voice, like it better than AP's. Can hear more of that smoky quality Perry had. Sorry, but I hear more soul and emotion in this guy's voice.

LOL.. you are such a smartass! I love it..! Exceptional effort..Thank you for that Stoney! IMO he sounds closer to Perry than anyone, even Jeremey..I'm sorry,I love Jer but, I think Jer sings too fast..I watch his stuff a lot and I love it.. But,this guy has the sound, the tempo and everything..Having said that,He would last about 6 concerts! His voice is too weak. But,I could watch that 50 times.. And for the record..I love Winds of Freedom..I like the music and I love both versions..But Jeremey just nails the end like no tomorrow..Everytime I hear that I just about crap myself..Sounds exactly how Perry would have ended the song! Let my beating begin...

Not even close. What's with you and all this emotion shit? AP sings this guy under the table.

That's exactly what crossed my mind while listening.

He has a really nice timbre and all,he has some technique and he even emotes ( ) pretty well, but the J catalogue would burn his pipes fast.

I like the tone/timbre of this guy's voice more.

These guys are NOT a Journey cover band in any way. They simply play one Journey song. I have seen these guys live and the singer is THAT damn good. The smoky reference is pretty accurate. He sings stuff like CCR, Black Crowes spot on. Check out their other vids.

Sorry Deano, I disagree. This guy is better. He has the technical skills with his instrument, but he's tapping that soulful place Perry did without sounding like he's copying Perry. Very impressive indeed.

It's not just the notes. It's the soul.

Beating indeed, lol...

I think Jeremy has a great voice. A great instrument. But I've always felt he doesn't know what to do with it, unless he's copying what someone created before him. There's nothing original or artistic about him. I thought his version was passionless and soulless. His vocal felt lost, like he didn't believe what he was singing about. Pure surface technique. The only note that was impressive was that last note and it was only impressive because he did it the way Perry might have. Again, unoriginal. Granted, it's a demo, but so was Jeff's and you know what? This was his audition. He had to believe he was being judged on what he submitted no matter what they told him about having the gig already.

I thought Jeff sang him under the table. I wasn't for Jeff in Journey until I heard Wings of Freedom. As cheesy as those lyrics are, Jeff sang them with passion, like he believed in what he was saying.

It was then I realized what Journey needed to replace Perry to move forward. It's not a tenor singer, it's a soul singer. Someone who can convey emotion with his instrument, not just hit high notes.

I pray Arnel can do this or I'll probably be done.

I'm impressed by the singer on this acoustic version of DSB and I'm not easily impressed. He fits the song without being a Perry clone. That's impressive.

I can see the point about him not lasting, but I really liked the sound of his voice - I really bet the band and song library would sound awesome with this guy. He looks and sounds a lot "cooler" than AP.

He struggled big time on this. Cracked a few times.

Hey whatever. He is good, but IMO, which is all that really matters, AP is better.

Totally agree. Pineda totally wipes the floor with this guy. His vocal was a virtual clone of SP's with no real emotion or feeling evident. Shoove him on American Idol and watch Randy Jackson tear him to pieces with a 'I don't get it dawg, sing me something original - in your own voice'.

As good as it was (and it was good) this hardly original vocal performance had more cracks in it than a Euro's teeth!

I'd really love to purchase the crystal ball you all have, lol... Seriously.

I don't see Arnel destroying this guy (destroy is an extreme). At least not from what I've heard of Arnel so far. He's a good singer for sure. Better than Augeri by a country mile, but I'd say his vocals are closer in quality to Jimi Jamison and Jack Wagner than to Steve Perry. I'm waiting to hear some soul from the guy, but so far I'm not feeling it. I hope I'm pleasantly surprised.

I guess you misunderstood..."Winds of Freedom" wasn't an audition and Journey didn't ask me to do anything with it. I wrote the lyrics to it and demo'd it on my own, just as an exercise. Hopefully someday I'll be able to do something creative and artistic.
