Thanks for the links BJG76.

Why didn't they get Arnel some boots or lifted sneakers? Tom Cruise must have a pair he can lend. :D

Nice to get a preview of what they sound like.

Dear Mr. Schon.

I'm Sorry. I was wrong. The young one can sing. Carry On.

I don't think he sounded all that fantastic on this one. He got better later on.

I agree. The latter half was a lot better.
Stone In Love almost killed me. I never really liked Augeri's take on that one either.

I did...I love the version on the 2001 DVD, regardless of if it was pro-tooled or not.

given the expectations I had...and the comments I made to myself and on my show about it....I must admit, I'm truly surprised...the kid's good...

Sounds like a good description of Perry's rendition of "Only the Young" from the ROR tour.

You must be high...It wasn't that great but it certainly wasn't anywhere near as bad as the worst of Augeri. Not even close.

Listened to the first minute of Stone In Love and got some chills watching Neal do his thing.

Pineda sounded fine. More like Augeri than perry in that 60 seconds...loving that they dusted Rubicon back off, too.

for the first 3 songs ever with Journey live, it ain't bad...but no disagreements there. He's rough there--at best. Hard to have much soul and passion when you are as nervous as he had to be. He got considerably better around Lights/Open Arms onward once the early nerves wore off. Go find the video for Lights. That was probably the first one he did that he sounded good on, and he absolutely nailed Open Arms, which one would expect since he has been doing that for a while. As much as a loathe that song, it's a lot harder to sing than some of the rockers. Give the guy time...

Oh dear.

Arnel is having the time of his life.

I wanted to be impressed, I really did. I am not.

To his credit, he is not a Perry clone but I heard lyrics. Just lyrics. A very nice guy having a lot of fun, but just lyrics.

I'm going to hold off until I hear new music and see if Arnel gets a bit more soulful as he gets more comfortable - as far as stage presence, folks were right - the bigger stage brings him out a lot more and that was okay.

Rather anti-climactic for me.

:(

What's with that constant wavering in his high notes?
He sounds like a goddamn billy goat.

I also noticed the the notes that sounded like a doctor had a tongue depressor in his mouth and was asking him to say "Ahhh" as well. The guy was trying too hard. He nailed the ballads and did fairly well on Only The Young. He needs a little time, that's all. I'm sure leaving his homeland, recording an album, re-recording the GH, learning new songs, taking diction lessons and the stage fright from tonight were quite overwhelming. I'll render a verdict after 20 shows or so...maybe even more. This is going to require some patience.

Gotta admit OTY and CR sounded pretty good. Maybe he did get better as the show progressed.

I still can't get over how fucking awesome that venue was. Great stage, outstanding lighting and it's overall design seemed tremendous. The intro into Separate Ways from the cell phone in an above link gave you a good idea as to how cool that stage really was.
