I remember back when I first heard Augeri ( the Vegas comeback show) and seeing Journey that year on tour. The Vibe and feeling is not the same. There was so much more electricity then. It was not there this time. Not At All. I'm going to hold my final opinion Until March 9th ( 12:01 am.) I would love to be wrong on this one but you have to admit how you felt in 2000. That was special.

I'm lost here.

Augeri started in 1998 and during the Vegas show he had 2 full years with the band already. As for "electricity" I'd say that Thursday night's concert was the wildest one they've had in over 20 years. Those 15,000 beaners were going fucking NUTS. I'm not gonna entirely say that was all due to the band, but the crowd sure seemed satisfied after the show.

2000 - Arrival.
We'll compare Arnel in 2 years then. That's only fair. Shit, Augeri already had about 100 shows under his belt...Arnel has...ONE!!!

'Cept for it being all DD, it looked liked a good show. Ross looked like he was sleepwalking sometimes.

I'm comparing the first time I heard both.
the difference

I think a lot of the difference has to do with the fact that there were NO jrny shows for SO LONG until Augeri took the stage in 98. The excitement I felt leading up to my first jrny show was amazing, and to this day I've never felt the excitement I did at the first couple shows. But now, 10 years later, all that "ramp up" excitement is gone. The band has been dismantled and put back together so many times in the last few years, it's almost just like "well, let's see what they've done now." Watching the show, Jon looked completely bored, Ross was just - there. Neal, however, seemed on fire, energized, and fun. I think Arnel has energy, and he seems a lot more fun on stage than Augeri did, but his sound is just SO different (I really don't connect his voice to Perry at all) that it feels like i'm being alienated away from the music - I guess that's why i'm just like "ho hum" about this all.

Which is unfair because the first time you heard Augeri he had 100 shows under his belt, and stage fright, anxiety and adrenaline probably weren't an issue as they probably were for his first show.
