I know we probably wont see it that way but will he ? If anything is going to get him out of "retirement" this might.. You know damn well he is checking this site was well as the clips on youtube. He is only human in the end and I am sure he still has some ego about him....

No, the idiot loonatic fans will but I think mr p feels his vocal body of work is secure legacy-wise.

Otherwise he'd be back I guess.

Perry put the songs on the map. He's not worried. Can't beat the Real McCoy. Even if Pineda gets out of Perry's shadow somehow. People will still remember Perry first. Which is ok. Pineda knows that.

No. If anything, I think modern day Journey gives him a lot to laugh about.

I think if they have a big hit somehow that it will ruffle his feathers a bit. Will he get a dime if they do ?

I'm a big fan of Steve Perry and I don't view it as a threat to his legacy. That stands on it's own. The music is out there for all to hear.

The only thing that which ruffle his feathers is if Journey re-record his songs on some crappy covers album for Walmart...and he no longer has the legal power to stop them.

I think you got that backwards JoePa. Why would a 'loon' think Arnel is a threat to the (Perry) legacy? If any thing JSS would have been more of a threat to Perry's legacy. He was winning over fans right and left. Heck, I'm one who liked him fronting Journey almost as much as Perry. If anything Perry might just see this as Journey getting yet "one more" singer that sounds like him.

Like I said in another thread... Perry should be $hitting himself silly with joy to see the band out on the road playing the back catalogue. I'm sure South American sales have picked up. Even if temporarily, it's still more cash in the bank...for everyone. And when they tour in other countries, and here at home, it'll still mean that the catalogue is being kept alive.

There's no threat at all...only flattery. And the biggest thing is that Perry's paycheck is alive and somebody else is doing all the work for him.

I wish I had a band playing my music, and I didn't have to hit the road any more.
Perry had a great gig then...an even better one now.

later~

Let me know when you figure it out, but to coin a cliche it is what it is because the persistent ones always betray their sense of threat by crawling out of the woodwork to cumpulsively criticize every twitch the band has done since 1998. If there wasn;t an inherent loon insecurity there would be no need to repeatedly bash the band and throw rememberances in peoples' faces.

Completely laughable thought. SP legacy is firmly in place no matter if Pee Wee Herman was the front man now.

I can agree with you there. But both sides of the bashing coin aren't very attractive.

SP is an icon. His legacy will forever be safe. AP will build his own legacy. True, part of it will be doing SP's songs but he will win over a great deal of the world, especially with his "rags to riches" you tube story. You got a guy from GQ mag wanting info about them on here right now...Journey are/will be getting more media publicity now than they ever got with Augeri and JSS.

I have a hard time believing that Perry even gives a rat's ass about what Journey is doing now. He moved on and did so many years ago. No way is he spending time on Youtube. He's living his life.

I can tell you unequivocally, Steve Perry does NOT read here or any other music sites.

Um, no. They got quite a bit of pub with Augeri for a second time thru band, and JSS was getting monstrous reviews.

No offense to Arnel, but don't see that happening. Let's face it, the only voice that has belted out SP's Journey hits without trying to sound like Perry was JSS. Augeri and Arnel could and can impersonate that voice to a point, but when it came to new albums without SP, they didn't have any hits. Some didn't like him for varied reasons, but Augeri's voice overall was good enough, when trying and not trying to sound like Perry, to sell new Journey music, but it certainly sold nothing remotely close to a SP fronted band. The same will most likely happen with an Arnel fronted Journey. They may create some great music, but it is of no threat to SP because he couldn't care less. Granted, I do completely understand the music business is a different beast today than it was then, so units sold isn't as important, but I still don't see any major hits on the horizon because the bottom line is that Perry isn't singing the songs.

THis Arnel and Steve thing reminds me of a song by Rick Springfield called Bruce. Remember it?

In the song Rick gets frustrated cause girls and everyone else calls him "Bruce" all the time (thinking hes springsteen)

I reckon Arnel will have a similar experience. THe die hard fans are gonna argue and never agree. The rest of the world - the casual fans,
the concert goers, will look up and say, theres Steve Perry. They'll go to work the next day and say enjoyed Journey, that Perry guy's still got it.

I don't think he gives a rat's ass either way.
For whatever reason, he walked away from the biz and
this band years ago and has never really shown any signs
of turning back.

Does he probably still keep tabs or hear stuff from friends? Sure.
But does he really care? Doubtful.
