No. No they should not do that. Why? it would just sound like a tribute album, and desperate. Bad idea, and the masses wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot poll.

Hey, why doesn't Journey do a Christmas album and dedicate to Steve Smith, Greg Rolie, Steve Perry and the rest of the past members.

1. Where have you been?
2. Are you serious?
3. Who's your dealer?

Exactly. Technically they can't call it a Greatest Hits album. Because the "only" greatest hits available are the original recordings, you can't re-record them and call them hits, because they are not hits, they are covers of the original hits done decades ago. It's going backwards as well, and certainly living in the past. And we all know that "living in the past, isn't living".

I just thought that with the current technology they could renew some of their old hits. Maybe recreate it utilizing surround sound 7 speakers, and use dvd as the media or even blue ray. No compression. Would be amazing i think.

No. They were just fine the first time, that's why they became hits.
Those tunes were already remastered a year ago.
And to be honest, they didn't even really need to be touched then.

What they SHOULD do is record new material with their new singer and move forward instead of covering.

I love how all the random new guys asking questions about Arnel are automatically branded "Neal."

LockNLoad really turned out to be the axeman himself, right?

Come on, bro. The timing is just too perfect. They're about to unload that sacreligous crap on us, you know.

It's akin to re-recording Zeppelin's double-cd greatest hits package with David Coverdale.

Nah, not quite....

....it'd be akin to re-recording Elvis Presley's greatest hits with an Elvis Presley impersonator.

Remastering is different than renewing the old hits. Remastering is basically taking the original wav files and using some software like Sonic Foundry and applying some new filters on it to make it sound more crisp and new. With the old track it was only using two stereo outputs.

What i would like is to basically re record the greatest hits that uses more than two stereo outputs so for example each instruments are being sent out to more than 2 speakers. And wth the current recording instruments that they have now, it would be amazing.

This day and age everyone has a 6 speaker surround sound system. And with AP around who actually has the voice that will give justice to the original tracks this would be the right time to create a Next-Gen Greatest Hits album.

Look idiot you don't have to resort to talking down to us like children just because we won't rubber stamp your lame idea. That is only adding insult to injury. We know what remastering is. Your idea is fucking absurd, and talking down to us won't change it. You're obviously not a Journey fan; rather just an Arnel fan who wants to try to bring fame to your idol by leaching onto Steve Perry's legacy like a parasite. It's simply a very bad idea. If Arnel cannot create his own legacy with his own original music, then he doesn't deserve fame.

I understand what remastering is, thank you. That having been done to all those songs was quite enough. They don't need further enhancement or or a different sound system or better instrumentation and they sure as all hell don't need a different fucking singer.

New material for a new singer with a band taking new steps forward and if they do it right then they can record the Greatest Arnel Hits one day. Seriously, you think 10 years of recording and touring and chart making should be replaced like it meant nothing? An album that was 14x platinum and certified Diamond should be redone?

So should McCartney and Starr find two new guys and re-record Beatles hits with "current technology"? That's about the same as what you're talking about here. Technology, in many cases, is doing more harm than good. Just because the ability is there doesn't make it a good idea.

Should all the music from the 50s through the 90s be redone with new people and new instuments and new everything else just because there is better technology available now? No! Leave it alone. It was good the first time, it was a success the first time and it sounds just fine the way is.

For one thing, it's kind of disrespectful to hire a guy and go "well, yeah we'll do some new stuff but hey, here what were really need is for you to sing all the hits..." Give the guy the chance everyone has been posting on here for months saying he deserves - to do HIS thing, not someone else's and not something that's been done already.

For another, it's disrespectful to the guys who were a part of making those songs hits to start with. Call me whatever names you pro-Arnel people want (and I am NOT "anti-Arnel" so don't start) for saying it and try to throw my opinion in the toilet, I don't care, but yeah it's really shitty and disrespectful considering it was the "Perry/Journey" machine that made those songs what they were. What about Smith and Rolie? That was their work too that's being replaced.

And what about the fans who loved those songs, grew up with them, still love them? The whole thing is ridiculous.

Move on and let go of the damn past already. Let Arnel succeed, help Journey succeed, with the new dynamic they have a chance to run with here. Redoing all those songs makes them lose credibility as a band and shows people that they were only ever interested in hiring a perry clone. If they want to be looked on favorably, this isn't the way to do it.
