OT: Van Halen Shows Postponed - Update

World Entertainment News Network wrote:Rockers Van Halen canceled a string of comeback gigs so guitarist Eddie Van Halen could return to rehab to be treated for alcoholism, according to reports.
The band rescheduled two concerts in Virginia and Georgia at the end of last month and another this week, prompting internet reports claiming all tour dates had been pulled indefinitely.

Representatives for the rockers insist the tour is still on, despite announcing Van Halen "is undergoing a battery of comprehensive medical tests to determine a defined diagnosis and recommended medical procedures."

Now sources tell the National Enquirer the 53-year-old guitarist checked himself into a clinic near San Antonio, Texas, so he could detox for a week after a furious backstage bust-up in Florida with his 17-year-old son and bandmate Wolfgang.

An insider says, "It was the big what-if of the tour - whether Eddie could stay sober."

"Wolf hates it when his dad drinks. He knew Eddie was drunk onstage that night, and was acting cold to him, which set Eddie off. Eddie went beserk and started yanking guitar cables from the pedal boards and throwing cigarettes around onstage."

"At the end of the concert, Eddie was so mad at Wolf, he punched the amp speaker, knocking it over."

Van Halen enjoyed a stint in rehab last year, which delayed plans for the comeback tour.

This all makes perfect sense. I'm sure the doctors told Eddie that he had to spend 30 days minimum in rehab at first (their standard policy) - which is why Van Halen management initially canceled the tour. Then when the promoters heard about it, they were like "no fucking way" and told Eddie to finish out the tour and then go into rehab for 30 days. I can see where they are coming from. Why should they lose millions at his expense? They probably told him to dry out for a week, reschedule four shows, and then finish out the last month of gigs. Then he can go to rehab for six months if he wants to.

Poor Wolfie,
that kid has been through it.
He and Miles should start their own band.

Im sure this is nothing new for wolfie. Eddie has been a boozer Wolfies whole life. Wolfie grew up with it. Im sure as he grows older his patience for it has grown thin..especially with the pressure of a huge tour like this.

the only thing this week in rehab will do is buy time for the promoters to finish the tour.

Eddie needs long term help and being on the road isnt helping.

I've heard about how kids get embarrassed when their parents are drunk in public. Imagine being in front of 15,000 people when your dad is stumbling around drunk onstage. No wonder Wolfie was acting cold to Eddie.

Eddie might very well be dead right now if it weren't for Wolfie.

:(

No big new news about it being about rehab Too. Exactly what I posted too. Eddie was in rehab a week before any of this really got going.

Sounds like he's used to trying to get between his father and booze.

All part of the addict cycle, they go HARD after their loved ones when those loved ones put feet down and opt not to be enablers.

Good for the kid, Edward will thank him one day if he doesn't boot.

Said this once in another thread.
Miles Schon, Wolfgang VanHalen, & Nick Simmons.
Not sure who the drummer would be. ???
The names alone would ensure major promotion & initial success.

later~

Dave should call in Steve Vai to finish the tour. Eddie, you're an idiot! Way to be cool to your kid.
Now I hate him even more. Great talent, zero as a human being.

Toss Alexa Ray Joel in there for keys (and eye candy), and then Trevor Lukather on additional guitar and vox...

Zak Starkey (Ringo's kid) on drums. He's a great drummer! Very Keith Moon.

Word has it that Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony are recording a new album with Joe Satriani. How about Van Halen finishing the tour with those three?

David Lee Roth on vocals, Sammy Hagar on vocals, Satch on lead guitar, Michael Anthony on bass/background vocals, and Alex Van Halen on drums. Now that would kick some fucking ass!!! They could call it the "Best of Both Worlds 2008 Tour".

Sorry EVH fans, but Satch could dance circles around Eddie right now. Eddie was once a talented and very intelligent musician, but the drugs and booze have burnt up way too many brain cells. He's not even half the musician and performer that he used to be.

Stuff like this is a the rock and roll equivalent of having sex with a supermodel. First the new 'Snake record, then the new Asia record...now this. This is what we were put here for! Hell yeah!

The Hagar/Anthony/Satch project I believe is real and is probably just a continuation of the Planet Us thing that Neal dropped like a hot plate. Remember the last lineup had those guys + Deen.

Neal didn't drop it. Hagar and Anthony dropped it. They went running back to Van Halen to do that tour and the group imploded. Neal didn't want to wait and started Soul Sirkus (he should have waited). Bad timing all around. Just wasn't meant to be.

From Wikipedia:
"Planet Us never finished their planned album likely due to the busy nature of its members at the time. Hagar and Anthony returned to Van Halen with much fanfare in 2004 and subsequently went on a world tour. In frustration [1], Schon and Castronovo took the material written for Planet Us and formed Soul SirkUS with Soto, touring the results before returning to their regular duties in Journey."
