Oh for crying out LOUD...!

Come on now... It's a rehashing of "Be good to yourself"! This is what the new album sounds like? Rehashing Perry heyday songs? Again? They did this on Arrival too! I'm REALLY disappointed...

Only saving grace is Arnel sounds good, but I'm really, really annoyed overall.

DUDE. Tell me this doesn't sound just like Be Good to Yourself? The chorus is a 100% rip on it. Arnel's even aping Perry's vocal choices.

Sounds a little like a cross between "Never Too Late" & BGTY - not necessarily a bad thing.

The much praised "Believe in Me" by Soto/Schon also had similarities to Journey songs past.
"World Gone Wild" also starts off sounding like a Separate Ways -knockoff before veering off into its own groove.

I really have no problem with Journey raiding tombs from their own graveyard.

Upon further listens, this song is very immediate and catchy, (and not just because I think I've heard it before).
So far, these new tracks are very encouraging.

Sorry, but I love the song. They're damned if they do, damned if they don't. They either sound too much like classic Journey or not enough...I disagree.

Sorry, but there's a vast difference between sounding like classic Journey on new material and deliberately lifting melodies and creative choices out of old hits. Remember me had the Journey sound but didn't sound anything like a song they already did. So did The Place in Your Heart.

Try again....
Upon the first soundbytes of "The Place in Your Heart" being released online, numerous fan comparisons were made to "Ask the Lonely" both here and on BT.
"Faith in the Heartland" was described as "Only the Young" meets U2.

BGTY is too hard too sing.. but everyone likes it.. so they rewrote it so it can still be played live..

So you're saying it's subjective. Fair enough, but this, to me, is such a direct rip off it hurts my ears. I'm extremely turned off here.

I'm going to give it a fair listen when the studio recordings come out, but based on what I've heard so far, I'm really, really not impressed.

No, no, I agree with you. I hear the similarities. I just think songs can be similar, and stand on their own.
The keyboard riff of "Message of Love", for example, is reminiscent of SW - but it's still a great Journey song.

Yep, agree with most of you... Sounds like they are trying to sound a little too much like classic Journey, so what better way to do it then rework a song they already did :) Not a bad sounding song, but too similiar to BGTY

ahhh, sounds like BGTY to me too, down to the Perryisms. But what do you expect, Jon says they want to go back to their legacy sound. I guess that includes their lead singer, too

Yeh, Jeff wasn't deliberately invoking any of those Perry inflections whatsoever.
It is what it is.

Noble, this is an extreme though. It's laced throughout the entire song and practically the entire song is a rehash of BGTY. All well and good if they want to perform it live, but how DARE THEY TRY AND SELL ME A SONG THEY ALREADY MADE AND CALL IT NEW???

I'M Impressed with the song, so count me out !

I loved it and I knew right away I was listening to BGTY 2

And you know what? I was cool with it. It's a re-working and I've heard lots of groups and artists do that. While creatively it ain't fresh, to me...what makes BGTY cool to me is what's going on with this song.

Some people will push that it ain't new angle but man, I'm digging Journey and it doesn't bother me at all.

same chords.. verse and chorus,, they switch a B with a C# on the new song.. 8)

the only real change is that the solo is played in a different key .. unbelievable..

I dunno.
I think the "Will She Go" chorus stands apart from BGTY.
I do hear what your saying, but as noted with MOL, Journey has been canibalizing itself for quite sometime now.

People say that about MOL, but I just don't hear the similarities. Maybe I'm not musically inclined, especially with instrument riffs, but to me, they're 2 different songs.

I think what's happening here is you're missing a key component to the songwriting team. So what we're left with is 2 out of the magic 3, and all we're going to get is songs like Winds of Freedom (which sounds like WYLAW without the Perry tone) and this song (BGTY w/the Perry soundalike). IMO

This is the Legacy sound, rehashing Be Good..... What a joke, Band is washed up, Im not buying shit from these relics

like it's the first time you've heard part of the songs having some similar tunes with other songs (whether it's the Intro or Chorus). as long as there's a noticeable tweak and change in tune and lyrics to make the song unique, then it's a different song. unless of course they just merely changed the lyrics, then that's a KNOCK-OFF !

since the beginning (even before that song was ever recorded), you already obliged yourself not to. so there's no further debate on that. not to appear to be hypocrite about it, aren't you ?

Gee, never saw that coming from you. Well, now that you've heard some new music and come to that "conclusion," I guess there's no point in you hanging around, right? Oh wait, if it was Jeremey singing with "these relics" you'd be all over it.

Like "Message of Love" wasn't a complete rip off of "Separate Ways"?
Like "Easy to Fall" wasn't a complete rip off of "Sweet and Simple"?
Like Soto's "Believe in Me" (recorded with Schon) Wasn't a complete rip off of "Be Good To Yourself"?
Like "Lovin Touchin Squeezin" wasn't a complete rip off of about a million blues songs, not to mention the first lines being directly
ripped from Sam Cooke.

People sure have short memories.
