Yeah, if an eight-figure offer from Wal-Mart was on the table for a DVD/CD package, it's safe to say that I myself would jump on it immediately in that position. Don't want to squander any lucrative opportunities, and come on, Journey's always been a very "business" oriented band, they know where to go for the dough.
You've got to be kidding, right? Where are the sources to this supposed offer from WalMart? I personally don't believe that it is anything but a false rumor. WalMart is not in the business of risking capital on 80's bands that *might* sell a few more records. I would be shocked if this record sold more than 200,000 copies. If it reached that number - which is on the high end in my book - the band would only make around a dollar or two per album after all expenses were paid, which wouldn't even amount to a half million dollars (six figures) - well short of "eight figures" which would be in the tens of millions.
C'mon guys - Journey isn't going to put out any new gold or platinum records. Who are we trying to kid? The money is in touring, not in record sales.
P.S. - I'm not trying to be a downer, just trying to keep it real.

As has been mentioned, the Vegas shows have a mention of the cd-live dvd package. It's a lot earlier than I would have wanted for a live dvd, but there were one or two cancelled shows that were planned to happen. Too bad they couldn't play more shows, because they will be a much tighter band by the end of the summer. I guess they had to get the filming over in time for mixing/mastering/re-doing any issues that come up.
If you want my guess on the matter, Columbia knows that Journey is back in the public eye after the Soprano's thing, and they are willing to give the new singer a chance. Basically, the record company and management have the option to forget the last ten years happened, and start fresh. With all the buzz over American Idol and such, you can easily spin Arnel being found on youtube in a positive direction. It really has the underdog story that people love to root for.
No, it isn't Perry, but Journey IS being mentioned in the all-important teen market required for a hit record. Everything comes in circles, and it is becoming cool to like Journey. For what it's worth, I would guess this is the one last gasping-for-air big push before the inevitable fade into obscurity if the cd fails. Time will tell...
