He looks so small and solitary there.
I feel sad when I look at that for some reason.
But as you say, a few hours later, things would look VERY different!

Hmm...the sky looks pretty dark already for the concert to be just a few hours away...maybe this was at a rehearsal the day before a show?

Nice pic either way...

I haven't seen that pictures either. Thanks much for sharing. I wonder was was going through his mind at that moment.

I have had periods in my career where I have had to travel extensively. I know there are perks to performing and I never walked into a boardroom where 20,000 people applauded me. But I can't imagine many people enjoying the road. Especially on the tours where it's city to city and no time to look around. I get very sad and isolated when I travel.

Of course, give me the choice to go on tour and I'm there baby!

I know....

...what was going through his mind at that moment.
It was: "Why is my shadow so much taller than I am?"

Just kidding , I loves Mr. P.

That picture was actually taken during one of the FTLOSM shows.  :P J/K. That picture is really cool. He reminds me of a boxer going through his pre-fight "in ring." Cool shit.

Maybe he was thinking, "50,000 fans times $35.00 a ticket = 1.75 mil plus another mil in merchandising times 2 nights equals 5.5 mil..."

If I bring my mic cord out here like this just as Neal is walking out front for his solo, I bet I could trip him and win that $20 bet with Jon.

Looks pretty pensive, doesn't he? Problems with Sherrie at this point? Band tensions? Mother getting ill? All of the above?

Wish he would record again (Can't let you... go.)

I think the weed may have helped him relax when that was snapped, and also might explain his focus.

Actually, that reminds me of Diamond Dave...dude used to spend an hour on stage, hours before the show, getting a feel for it...Dave's actually a really deep guy.

Thanks for the link to the site. Never seen this and alot of the others.

This pic helps show what a tough job this is. For any singer. I'm sure he's answered it in interviews but I wonder if he ever got past the nervousness you get when you're about to perform.

WOW! That is a beautiful photo...I had never seen it before either. How amazing to capture this solitary moment on stage...juxtapose that with that shot of the packed stadium from the helicopter view. It's mind blowing. How magnetic he is...how he pulled so many people in with his talent.

He always seems so in control & at ease on stage, but I read in one interview where he said he "had to move around" 'cause if he stood still he'd get nervous. O something like that...I was really surprised to read that, but I guess that is true for a lot of performers.

I believe this pic was during/after soundcheck during the Frontiers tour.

Perry would spend time alone checking the echo/sound were present in each venue - kind of checking for "flat" spots.

Like Ginger Baker of Cream used to spend time after sound check by himself walking back and forth across the stage bouncing drum sticks off the floor - it gave him an idea of how the boards responded.

This was Frontiers era...so...like $14.50 if that...per ticket...I am going to have to go back and look through my ticket stubs and see what I paid in 1983....hmmm...

My first Journey show was in 1982 at the Rose Bowl. $12.50. And that was an all day event with a few other top-notch bands. I think Frontiers was $16.50. But that was 25 years ago, so my memory may bit a little bit rusty.

I think at that time, they were actually making more money on merchandising. So my estimate is not far off.

As long as we end the "Diamond Dave" comparisons right there, because Roth couldn't carry Perry's jock (vocally speaking). Hell, Roth couldn't even carry Sammy's jock!

If tickets for shows were as much as CDs are now, I'd be at 10x as many concerts as I already go to!

Dug out my ticket stubs...

1980 - $9.00
1981 - $9.00
1982 - $12.50
1983 - $12.50

You'd be lucky now getting a drink and soft pretzel for $9.00.
