Gregg Rolie's TBF Involvement!

Hey, I found the article that mentions Gregg's BRIEF involvement with the TBF reunion! It doesn't say much, but it is mentioned. It was from October 1995, San Francisco Chronicle.

"But friction with Perry ended his involvement"

Geez, he must be really difficult to work with.

So depressing that Rolie couldn't do TBF. If he did, there could've been the chance that he'd stick with Journey to this day....

Gregg Rolie is my second-favorite Journey member, love the dude.

Well, he did win the Primadonna award amongst the band after the sessions were completed, 4 votes to 1.
That's the trophy he's holding in the pictures with him, Jonathan, Neal and the Caveman.

Here's a thought...
Obviously I don't know the man and can't make judgement, but do you think this is why Perry has decided to no longer sing/record? Perhaps him being a perfectionist brings out the beast in him that makes it difficult for others to deal with? Staying away from the business is the only way he could control it, sort of a Jeckyll/Hyde thing? There's been nothing but good said about him since post-TBF, and he has proven time and again to be a classy guy. And all of the trash talk (the Herbie interviews, the Behind the Music interviews) only reflects the times he was "active."

I still think nothing but the best of the guy, and hope I don't offend those who do know him. Just making an observation.

All,

Just wanted to take a minute to retract my other comments in this thread. Just finished reading the Lukather thread, and it was eye-opening. While my thoughts in this thread weren't meant to judge, they can be misinterpreted. Not looking to offend anyone.

AV.

P1ease.
Sick of that excuse for him being a sociopath in this band.

Would've given TBF those duets with Perry and Rolie. Man, that could have been awesome. Perry canned Valory, Smith and Herbert, and Rolie left because he was so much fun to work with. Does this seem like a pattern to anyone else or is it just me?

The fact that Perry is a pain in the ass to work with is ancient news, really. But it should be just one more example to some of the loons that Neal, Jonathan and Ross had no choice but to continue on without Perry.

I'd give my left nut for Perry to get along with them and tour one more time, but sadly it seems that that will never happen. In the mean time, I'm STOKED about this new lineup. 8)

I'm not sure how anyone could be STOKED about this lineup....

I am curious to see what this Revelation project sounds like. I hope Pineda sounds better then he has on the live stuff we have heard so far.

Synth, piano & rhythm guitar

My guess is Gregg would have handled B3 and piano...and vocals

It's a true travesty that the entire lineup with Rolie couldn't work. An album and tour would have been amazing...though I do think TBF is pretty damn solid anyway. The tour was a bit lame, though.

Schon n Cain are no picnic either...

Everyone's getting on Perry again.
What about Schon & Cain? There not any better Just ask Steve Augeri & Jeff Scott Soto....
Question Do you think Schon N Cain Let Arnel co write any songs?
I hope so.. I sure hope that J Cain didn't write all the lyrics... Too many heartland topics

Not sure about Cain, but Schon seems like the easiest guy in the world to work with. Simple formula for Neal: Write, record, tour, party. Write, record, tour, party. I've never heard anyone say that Neal was hard to work with. Quite the opposite actually. Cain, on the other hand, seems like he could be a bit more underhanded.

As for Augeri and Soto...Augeri got to tour for 8 years and become wildly rich and Soto was able to live out a dream for almost a year. I see that as a pretty good opportunity they were afforded. Rock and roll is a cut throat business. Just ask Steve Smith and Ross Valory how easy it is to get fired. And they were part of multi-platinum albums!!!

Who gives a shit. If it gets Rolie back, Cain can go piss up a flagpole.

Not that I have an opinion.

I remember an old interview from the Pink (entertainment) section of the San Francisco Chronicle back during the Journey "hiatus" between ROR and TBF where Neal mentioned that Steve had no respect for anyone he worked with. Now I am paraphrasing and I don't have the article in front of me, but Neal had come in to the studio after a night of partying and SP said something to the effect that Neal wouldn't be worth anything [on no sleep] and Neal said he hit his solo on the first take.

That was back in the pre-computer days when I searched the Pink section for Journey info every week! :D

I get the impression that Neal lives for that guitar - they say JSS is the hardest working singer, well Neal always has a million projects going at once and you can see his excitement when he plays. I'd always hope my tickets were on Neal's side of the stage. One concert found me on Jon's side - or so I thought, only to find out Neal was on that side this time! Just watching those fingers fly on the solos is amazing. Say what you want about Neal but you sure can't deny the guy's talent.

Neal could outplay that Christian dude Perry had on the "Flopsome" tour (a tour I enjoyed immensely though the music was awful) with no sleep for a month.

Now, now...Lincoln was only 22 at the time and we all can't be child prodigies like Neal! :D :D :D He is a really nice guy and we got to talk with him a lot during that tour.

Perry+Schon=The greatest twosome of all-time...without any doubt. No one interected and had chemistry like these two...no one. 8) I suspect they'll perform together one more time. Just a hunch. :D
