I love Michael Sweet, Stryper is one of my favorite hair metal/glam bands... but what the hell is he going to do in touring with Boston that would be useful? it says guitar and vocals...but why???

Who would have been your best choice? or maybe you wish they'd hang it up.
I'm just wondering is all.

Michael Sweet rules -- I just hope it doesn't interfere with Stryper. Was there actually news that he will be touring with them?

honestly, it seems like a stretch when you have to add 2 members to replace 1. i know that happens, but it seems that when the founding member dies, its time to leave it alone. although, at the time of posting that, i was still under the impression that oz fox played most of the lead in stryper, cause i had never seen them live, but after checking out some youtube vids, i see that michael will probably be playing some leads....

Personally, i would have liked to have seen one of the other 70's or 80's lead guitarists that are just loungeing around right now fill in the spot, maybe a reb beach or someone like that....

yeah, on the front page, he will be joining a tribute singer as the 2 new members for the tour this year.

I was surprised when I listened to the clips of him singing for Boston at that Brad Delp tribute how good he sounded singing those songs. I'm actually looking forward to seeing them if they go out this year.

I guess I'm not understanding what your problem with this is or what your point is. Plus..Stryper is so far away today from being a hair/glam band. Explain a little bit more why this is such a problem for you especially since you have never seen them live.
I'm not sure I am understanding your reasons why this is a bad idea? What's the problem with it? Michael can still sing..if not richer and better than ever and plays a killer axe.
Maybe it wasn't your ittention..but your post comes across as if you don't think he can do it..as if he's not good enough to do it..or it's just a horrible idea for some reason.
Being two of my fav bands..this is going to be sick.
Michael is a good fit because he hasn't been just lieing around. He has been so busy..that he has stayed on top of it.
No way Tom would do this if not so.

Yeah, but it's a freakin' school night for me, so its a no-go. :(

Now, that leaves 8/1, if we pair it with a visit to a friend of ours up in Elmira; or NJ on 8/10 -- another school night, but potentially closer to home (TBA). :?

Isn't Fran Cosmo out of the band too now, thought that was why they needed to add 2 guys.

They're actually replacing 3. Both Fran and Anthony Cosmo are out.

The band (as of now, anyway) consists of the following:

Tom Scholz
Michael Sweet
Gary Phil
Kimberley Dahme
Jeff Neal
Tommy De Carlo (Not really a member but he will be performing with the band)

If you really think about this..with both Brad and Fran not being there..there really is a need for two vocalist. They both sang the songs anyway and or helped the other. In concert Brad would always give props to Fran when he helped him out.
Plus..I don't believe Michael will be at every one of the shows.

With how the line up had been set with both Brad and Fran doing what they do..it's not like Tom is replacing one person. Fran had already been gone then Brad passed. Who else was going to do what Brad and Fran did. When those two sang together it was unreal to hear them each sing their own stuff and help each other out.

It's going to be really interesting to see how this all plays out.

While it sucks that neither Brad nor Fran will be there..thank God that someone I already completely dig..my top of two singers of all time..is going to be there.

Still sort of shakin' my head that one of my fav singers will be singing many of my all time fav songs.

The proof is already out there as far as Michael's vocals on his own stuff, Stryper and we have already heard him sing Boston and know he can.

This has nothing to do with who he is or what he has done..he can flat out still sing and many of the Boston songs are perfect for his voice/style.
Except for a few dicks who want to play with his beliefs and how he used to dress and being a part of all that..the response has been great.

His beliefs and how he used to dress have nothing to do with how he sings and what he will do on the Boston songs.

Tom is a perfectionist..as is Michael..Tom would not bring him in if he didn't believe..period.
I think by now with different stuff that has been posted from rescent stuff..people are learning more about Michael than just that damn song 'Honestly' ..which some have used to nail him with..and that fact that he used to dress like a bumble bee.

I myself am blown away daily that he has been able to continue and reinvent himself numerous times with much success..big time this time.

The only thing we can ever go with after everyone's opinions is what happens in concert and with the new album.

Turn into VH1 and classic this Sunday at 10PM EST to see some stuff from the Station Family Benefit Concert..in which Tom Scholz & Gary Pihl joined Stryper for Peace Of Mind.

I am still not quite understanding what your intention was with this post and posting it here and not in the Boston forum.

You came across as liking Stryper..but as if this was all wrong for some reason.

If you think about it..it makes sense. Plus..there's not a lot of people that Tom is going to feel comfortable with pulling in that good people for real deep down.

The true power of the internet..or what it should be about. First Journey and now Boston.
Just goes to show what can happen if you stick it out and believe. Actually pretty cool.
Amazing how many fans of groups have become members.

Here's a clip of "More Than A Feeling" with Michael on lead vocals:

Unlike some other tribute singers, Michael has his own distinct voice even though he is singing the same notes.

You can hear Tommy DeCarlo sing on his MySpace page:

http://www.myspace.com/tommydecarlo

Not bad. He'll do great with Michael Sweet.

It's not Brad Delp and Fran Cosmo, but I dare anyone to try to find a good live recording on Boston with those two on vocals. Boston was great in the studio, but were unable to replicate the studio sound in a live setting. All of the live recordings of Boston that I have heard sucked pretty bad.

Tommy has a bad ass guitarist on his recordings!

EXACLTY! He's not trying to be Brad..yet with his character..he will humbly give the songs respect to Brad..and point is..he can sing.
