Andrew, any chance of reopening it?

We all need to hear another album by that voice!

You know, a month or so ago I shelled out a good bit for the first Unruly Child CD, and was really not that impressed. I'd heard great things about it, and it started out with a killer tune, but overall, it just seemed to be all over-production above song quality. Not many of those songs could have stood up well with just the vocals and an acoustic guitar.

I'd bought my first Unruly Child disc years ago -- the one with Kelly Hansen on vocals (Waiting For The Sun), and I loved it. This first one doesn't have a lot of replay value for me. But Mark Free had a great voice!

I've never owned any UC stuff. But I do love the Signal stuff, and his solo demo album "Long way from love" is in my top five melodic rock albums ever I think.

Mark Free rules. Love everything ever released....and all those gems that remain unreleased.
I am still in contact with Marcie. Haven't heard back for a while, but she is doing well.

About 2 years ago I actually bought some stuff from her site and she was nice enough to email and even called me to thank me.
I spent about an hour on the phone with her talking about music and her days in the music biz.
She was VERY nice, and HUMBLE and as anything. She is floored that anyone even remembers her.
VERY,VERY NICE PERSON AND A CLASS ACT!!

If you go after the solo cd, find the remastered 2cd version with the Live at the Gods 1993 cd added in. The remaster sounds better, and the live show is about as raw as you will ever hear (Free met the band about 12hrs before the show). Absolutely killer performance though.

Speaking thereof, the first Unruly Child album wasn't exactly my favorite either, but the demo cd that was basically the first album with some bonus tracks released a few years ago sounded a lot better surprisingly. Maybe overproduction killed the album.

Like Andrew said...anything that Mark/Marcie has done is absolutley fantastic. Personally, I would recommend purchasing the Signal album as well as Unruly Child: The Basement Demos. The Signal record is amazing from start to finish with excellent production. The Basement Demos are very raw recordings. In my opinion it contains better versions of certain songs that were on the original UC record mixed with some other unreleased gems. One song that was on the UC record with Kelly Hansen was Forever. The demo version of this song is on The Basement Demos and it is incredible! If you liked the Hansen version of this tune then you better listen to this version in a room with good ventilation because this version is smokin'. I think I recall Marcie saying it was a first take but I could be mistaken. That song alone would be worth the purchase. Over and out...

Andrew, why don't you reconsider the idea of opening back the Marcie Free tribute page? She really deserves it :) I am sure that there are more people willing to express hteir opinion about her musical career. She is getting a lot of attention again thanks to myspace!. What do you say? :-D
