It was 1993(6-23-93 to be exact, hence my screen name!) and I was at a local amusement park with my girlfriend at the time. We were hanging out on the dock where these paddleboats were and just kind of watching the sun go down. Well wouldnt you know it but in this particular section of the park, someone was playing the Greatest Hits CD over the speakers. The girl I was with tells me that Journey is her favorite band. Keep in mind, that although I knew and liked all the Journey popular 80's songs, I didnt really know who Journey was or that they were the one's singing them since I wasnt THAT into music. I was 17 and she was 15. So anyways, LIGHTS comes on, and having heard it on the radio about 5x that week, I say something stupid like "Oh isnt this their new song?" At which point I was lectured and told the history of the band and how this song was in fact about 15 years old. Boy did i feel stupid. But anyways, so on the way home, wouldnt you know it, Open Arms comes on the radio. This is 1993 mind you, so what are the odds of both Journey GH being played and Open Arms being on the radio. But she continues to sing this song to me on the way home. I went out and bought the GH tape the very next day, and was a hardcore fan ever since. She broke up with me shortly after, but I had my choice of Journey songs to get me through it. I believe "I'll Be Alright Without You" worked best! But anyways, being that I saved at the time everything from that relationship, I still had my ticket stub from that day, and always remembered the date I was there, and therefore, the date I became a Journey fan for life. On a side not, this amusement park, which has always had sentimental value, was closed down, unexpectedly last fall, without any warning or a chance for one last visit. So that is the story of why I'm even on this forum, and about my "Once in a Lifetime Girl". If anyone cares to know!

I remember when I was on one of my first dates with an ex-girlfriend at the cinemas and that ice skating film was on (I forget the name but had the unfunny Will Ferrell "acting" in it"). And during one of the scenes Faithfully starting playing, and I literally nearly burst with excitement that one of my favourite songs of all time was being played infront of other people I know, like I could prove to my English friends that "yes Journey do exist!" . So i was pretty much shouting "oh my god, how great is this". And freaked the girl out quite a bit.. quite alot actually haha

Even now on rare occasions when a Journey song is played I get very excited. A few months ago I was in a music shop and just as I walked in I heard DSB and ran into the shop with excitement which gained a few strange looks. And unbelievably in the same week I was in my student union and i couldnt here the music properly and just as I started to make out the song, I heard the words "some we will win.." so once again I jumped up with excitement and ran to the DJ he then got quite excited that I new who Journey were and then made him play Seperate Ways.

Oh and i've also made the DJ at my favourite club in Liverpool play DSB now aswell.

I had heard the hits as just about everyone else in the world but I had not heard songs like Escape, Where were you, etc. After seeing them a few times I was hooked and bought every album from Infinity on and I love them all ACCEPT ROR. I like two songs on that album and the rest is BLAH for me !!! Firing Smitty and Ross plus the horrible over produced mid 80's guitar tones and drum sound.. YUCK !!!
