Now I admit, I'm only a very casual Gotthard fan. I have a few of their albums but I don't listen to them frequently. A song JUST came up on my iTunes shuffle... and I was like, wow, I had no clue there was such a rocked-out version of Where Were You. I look at my player and it's actually a Gotthard song, from their self-titled album, called "Take Me."

Anyone else see the similarities? Kick-ass song regardless. Was Journey a big influence on these fellas? I DO know they're the biggest AOR band in Europe these days.

They were originally produced by Chris VonRohr who was the bass player for Krokus. Gotthard has some EXTREMELY good albums, especially the first 3...

They also usually include a sweet cover of another bands tune on each of their CD's. They really rocked up Deep Purple's Hush on their first CD, they kicked ASS on a cover of the Beatles Come Together on their Dial Hard release and they also nailed The Mighty Quinn by Bob Dylan on their G release

I have Gotthard, Dial Hard, Lipservice, and Open.

I haven't listened to Gotthard in FOREVER.. I got these albums back when I first started reading here, in the months leading up to Generations. I played them quite alot back then but they've just kinda slipped into the recesses of my memory now.

I think today might just have to be a Gotthard Day.

Their stuff AFTER the G album got a little more mellow and AORish. They also enlisted Mandy Meyer, formerly of Asia, on some of those albums. The production is ALWAYS top notch on each of their releases

Ironically enough, Gotthard is somewhat a continuation/rebirth of a rather unknown band called Cobra, who had one Jimi Jamison of later Survivor fame singing for them. Gotthard has covered a few Cobra songs, and you can hear a little of the Cobra sound on the first album before they went for their own style.

The first few albums were pretty much straight ahead hard rock, with G being the best by far. Then after sucess with an acoustic live album (De-Frosted), they went pretty soft for a while before starting to put hard rock back into the mix. After Mandy Meyer left, they charged back into hard rock with Lipservice and last year's Domino Effect, which saw the band modernize their sound a bit. The later sound is (as best as can be described) a European version of post-New Jersey Bon Jovi with a higher singer who can nail Led Zeppelin. Check out youtube--there's a bunch of stuff there including most of the live dvd they released from the Lipservice tour.

So who was in Cobra AND Gotthard other than Mandy Meyer (who was also in Krokus right?)

Trying to find a band-member list of Cobra and not successful. Judging from the songwriting though (and the songs Gotthard covered), it appears Meyer had some amount of influence in both bands.

Actually Steve Lee and Leo Leoni were in a band called Forsale before Gottard. They released an album called Stranger In Town and it's a classic!
