You notice he didn't say better than Escape. So better than Frontiers? Since he did produce TBF, it's gotta be good.

I always liked it when Neal contributed an instrumental piece to an album, like "The Majestic" or "Departure."
It gave the albums an extra sheen of class.

More than that, as the band became increasingly Perry-oriented and radio friendly, it helped to have Neal's imprimatur stamped somewhere on the record - just in case there were lingering doubts as to who's band it was after all.

I think the best we can hope for is Schon/Cain. They've done some pretty good stuff in the past on Neal's solo albums.

Yep, and I dig his piano playing. With that said, Shirley's on crack if he thinks this will be the best thing since Escape. And if it is, I'll pay money to see Saint John....... well, you know. Actually I'll pay money to a hooker so he doesn't have to. That's what a friend does.

Yeah, it better be good now after reading that paragraph. If this album turns out to be a big shit sandwich, there's going to be a lot of deflated Journey fans out there who had to take a bite to find out, and I would be one of them. Journey sounded great live, the studio version of the finished product will no doubt sound superb. But like someone said here a while back, you can't polish a turd. So if the original songs themselves suck, then no studio production can clean it up not to suck.

the instrumentals have always been 'journey' to me. each time i hear "majestic" i'm taken back and can feel that anticipation of the band taking the stage. i love the instrumentals. good call noble one

I disagree -- I'd take the tough love approach and let him learn a hard lesson from his own mistakes. As a true friend, of course I'd be there afterwards to lend moral (not oral) support. Besides, all my money is budgeted to get the new Dokken and ASIA CDs...

Didn't Neal claim Arrival was Escape for 2001 (or something like that) back in the day?

Of the songs I heard so far, sounds more like Bad English meets Survivor than Journey. The only Perry era Journey track I've heard is a blatant knock off of Be Good to Yourself (never walk away) so for Caveman to make this statement, knowing full well what they did on that song, I'd say the statement is hype on its face.

Arnel can sing, but so far the new material isn't any better than Augeri era stuff. I predict at best, it will be Arrival part 2 and won't have the "it" factor of Escape or Frontiers. That chemistry ship sailed when Perry retired.

Asked and denied, basica11y. Remember he was sti11 officia11y (at 1east as it app1ied to Jrny) "toast" at that time. On1y now do we find out that the sti11-awaiting re1ease Against The Wa11 was in the can and that the FT1OSM record had to be at 1east in the conception stage.

That said, I 1ike the '92 versions, as-are as instrumenta1s, though on the '86 ROR demo perry did seem to be onto something very coo1 with the With A Tear chorus.

Possibly - except that Schon does do a solo live (as well as opening their shows with instrumentals of Star Spangled Banner, Jerusalem, etc) so I don't think he's totally under Cain's thumb.

Oh sweet as. Instrumental, finally! this should be a good album, but... as good as Kevin Shirly may think it is... well it will probably be better than Arrival, and certainly better than Generations!, but it won't touch anything before that, it simply can't. Those classic albums are timeless, you can't compete with classics and of course Perry!, unless this becomes a classic, which it won't. Looking forward to it, non the less.
