Faithfully

No surprises so far :)
I also know they do not do Ask The Lonely.

Yeah for some reason Perry can only pull this one off, and its from the original recording, I've never heard anyone cover this song well. I hate this idea of re-recording the classic songs, the classics are what brought me into this band, and I can honestly say if Perry wasn't at the helm when I first heard Journey, I would of never become a fan - this puts an ill feeling in my gut, and soils my love for this band even more. I'm looking forward to buying their new album, but couldn't care less for the tainted re-recordings.

so your saying you only like journey because of steve perry, his looks, how nice he is, sound like ever itunes downloading music stealing droan out there, a good song is a good song, if kevin chalifant had co/written and sang those tunes journey would had been a hit band, maybe not ass big but still big. because the songs were good and so was the production.

Kind of the "if pigs could fly" argument. Kevin is a good talent, but obviously he has never written/co-written anything (that I know of right off bat) that has been anything close to those Journey hits. You're really cheapening the Steve Perry era in this band, which is quite ridiculous. Even Neal and Jon knows Steve Perry made the band a big time band. Which is why they wanted to go out and grab a "Steve Perry sounding" singer.

You're right in that a good song is a good song......but it has to have the right voice to pull it off too. Perry's got a one in million voice, so he pretty much adds to any song. You can have an absolutely great song, but if you have someone like Bob Dylan singing it, it does nothing for me. But then I am probably biased, a good 80% of my music enjoyment comes from the vocals......other 20%, drums. The vocals make or break it for me. :D

Yeah, I wonder why that is. It doesn't seem like a very difficult song to sing compared to a lot of the others.

Rerecording WYLAW makes NO sense to me.

That's already a latter-day Journey song, the entire tracklist should've been culled from '78-'86.

I agree...with one caveat...live vocals as opposed to studio vocals. Nearly anyone can sound good in the studio, but being able duplicate the same quality during a live performance is what sells me. Many people sing...only a few of those_can_sing.

Ok, I'm confused, and probably missed something. A while back someone posted a set of what were supposed to be the re-recorded songs, and they were surprisingly mostly not G.H. songs. I think the first one was "Spaceman" or something, and "In The Eyes Of A Woman" was also one. Did that turn out to be a rumor, or a joke? Are you saying that it will probably be more like we first though -- Dirty Dozen-type songs?

Agree with you 100%. A lot of the time I prefer the raw live vocals over studio. Almost every single live version of LTS I've heard has won me over the studio version. I was just talking about this with someone a little while ago. IMO, perfect example is one of JSS's new songs. I liked 21st Century when I heard it on his myspace, but it didn't totally grab me.........different story LIVE, that one comes across fabulous live! Sig youtube

pretty sad in that we've gone from anger, to denial, to acceptance on this issue. Now we're discussing what classic jurnee tracks should or should not be re-recorded, instead of debating whether they should have desecrated hallowed ground to begin with.

Frankly, none of them should have ever been touched. This will be one of Arnel's downfalls, because he will be thrust into a comparison/scrutiny with Perry that JSS, Augeri, Chalfant and many others were never subjected to...

Remember folks, Mitch Malloy had the van Halen gig after Sammy...but turned it right the fuck down as soon as Roth walked onto stage with the other 3 at the MTV Music Awards. His feelings on this, adequately conveyed in an interview with Andrew, was that you simply can't follow an event like that without undergoing insurmountable scrutiny. He knew that he stood no chance after that...and we all know how Gary Cherone did instead.

The fact remains that the more Nick Schlong and Yeast-Boy try to rape their past with Arnel as their conduit, they will increase the difficulty of acceptance exponentially.

Even though it pains me terribly to say this, Arnel stood a passing chance of success if they just released a double CD/DVD. One album of new songs and the live DVD.

But by rerecording these songs, the new CD will NEVER be judged on its own merits...and Arnel will live or die with how well he cops Perry. I'm sorry, this has cluster fuck written all over it....

I have to know something...Andrew..

Are there any plans to update the sound on these? maybe rock them up a bit, add a little more "oomph" to some that need it....like Faithfully...(not a bad song, but lets face it, it's 2008...it could stand an update)?

Are they complete NEW RECORDINGS...Or are they more or less doing Karaoke to the originals?

Bah.
People are WAY overreacting to the rerecordings. It's been done before, it'll be done again, it's not the end of the world, it will not sink Revelation.

No one is happy on this forum about these songs being redone (i dont think). But its happening. Alot of people will buy the CD because they have to as part of the set, so may aswell give it a listen. And it was also probably what made Wall-Mart agree to the deal

And evidently my mindset as it applies to the triple disc Revelation is in tune with the band's because the first thing I planned on playing was what is disc 1, the re recordings.

I believe for the band it's not so much "losing" something by re-recording these songs as it is making money and it being on their own turns with a singer that can actually pull it off. If you constantly hold Perry as the ideal and the one in a million voice than of course no one is ever going to be able to capture the song and sing it right. For me it's Neal doing it his way and the band delivering the goods and not being dictated by Perry at the helm. It's also makes perfect sense if you are Neal because the majority of fans want to hear the classic more than they need Perry to be on the stage singing the songs. The audiences are not made entirely of MR fans; there are a lot of people who go to the concerts just for the music.

It's not so much about improving (which I agree with you on that point that you can't improve them) as it about checking out a new variation. Probably along the same lines as why I/we enjoy seeing Frontiers. No one here is comparing the old GH versus the re-records, either. There is simply no comparison. Just like there's no comparison between Perry and Jeremey but I still have a great time jamming out to Frontiers and a few other really good cover bands.
