Don't Be Fooled...It's Not Journey

This morning in my box I got an email from a friend saying that he had attached a "Leaked" copy of the instrumental "revelation" from the forthcoming journey album. Apparently this is going around, so I figured I'd stop it before it got anywhere here... Yes. It's a full instrumental track. Yes. It's called Revelation. Yes. It's brand new. Yes, parts of it SOUND like Journey (distinct few..) No. It's not Journey. It's Satriani. And track number 5 on his brand new album is an instrumental called "revelation".

If you get the email - or see it posted.

IT"S A FAKE.

Now you know.

Since when is SATRIANI a FAKE? ....specially compared to Neal!?

Neal is an all-around better player than Satriani, and as it pertains specifically to melodic rock (meshing your guitar with a singer's voice...Perry most noticably) he flat out blows him away. 8) That said, Satch is an amazing guitarist.

Well you probably think Neal blows Satch, Yngwie & Vai away ,,,, right ?:) all around ...
All 3 guitar players above can and have played MANY melodic songs with great singers too,,,, but if you wanna express your own biased opinion then
yes youre right, Neal blows all guitar players away just like Ross is the best bassplayer around ....all-around :)

How do you figure your OPINION is any better or more valid than St. John's? :?

In my opinion Neal is in the same class as the others you mention. And, no Ross is clearly not the best bass player around.....in my opinion.

They are just as much Journey now as they've ever been. Steve Perry didn't create Journey. It was there before he joined, dude. :D

Maybe that explains why Journey ridiculously named their instrumental "The Journey Revelation". Neal is tight with Satch so I am sure he knew of the other song.

Jesus Christ, you would've thought they would've seen this coming down the pike and worked something out. Like the Stones and beatles used to plan and stagger releases out accordingly.

IMO, Journey gets the dirty end of the stick in the great Revelation song title debate.
Why not both use the title for the song anyway, that's happened before?

My guess is about 500 more thousand people are going to buy Revelation than will buy the Satriani thing.

What is your criteria for skill? For example Yngwie has great technique, speed and cleanliness to his playing and a very "classical" style to most his playing. Vai is pretty much the same except he can bring out more of a jazz influence in his playing. Stevie Ray Vaughn was a master blues player. I have never heard anyone "emote" more "feeling" in their playing catalog than Neal Schon.

What I am getting at is - there are alot of different "skills" a guitarist can have. If you solely base who is "best" on technical skill (ie. speed, cleanliness, and technique), then you are only experiencing half of what a guitarist has to offer. And don't get me wrong, I am a fan of Yngwie, Satch, Morse, Moore, McAlpine, etc. Some of Vai's solo stuff is a little "out there" jazzy for my tastes, but I still do recognize him as a superior player. Personally, I do not think anyone can ever be called the "best" guitar player. There are simply to many different criteria that can be used. It would be interesting to rate players at 1 to 10 in several differing categories. I think numerically, those you and I have mentioned would all come in very close together.

Sorry for the rambling.

If you combine traits like versatility, originality, emotion, technicality, tone, speed, rhythm, and lead....

....Schon is definitely in an elite group with fellows like Petrucci, Satriani, Vai, Malmsteen, Lukather, Van Halen, Lynch, Beach, Howe, Fripp, Zappa, and Lifeson.

Can't name any guitarist the best, especially once you get to this echelon. Satriani and Schon are pretty much equals in my eyes, except Schon plays with less "flash" and Satriani plays with less "feeling."

Now if you throw overrated axemen like Cobain, Richards, Angus Young, Jack White, etc. into the mix, then we can begin discussing guitarists owning one another.

Jack White = That's not playing. That's glorified strumming... sounds like a squirrel caught in a tractor's nuts.

I like alot of "grunge"/"alternative" bands from the 90s but Cobain and Nirvana piss me off to the tenth degree. Never have I seen so much admiration heaped upon such a medicore band. Besides, all they did was rip off the Pixies and various obscure hardcore bands. Horrible group.

That said, Dave Grohl kicks ass.

You're right SF-dano,,, no one can say which guitar player is the BEST,,, way too many great guitar players out there ,,, more than half of them are not even famous.....

Here's one less known guitar player that can play stuff Satch,Yngwie,Vai and Neal can NOT play as smoothly and precise. 8)

dude,,,you have NO clue what GUITAR SKILLS are, if you think Neal(or Satch or that matter) can play the stuff this guys plays as accurate an as smoothley,,, again youre blinded by your biased opinion rather than openminded views,,,,, Neal can NEVER play arpeggios as smoothly as this guy does.
Of course you would have to be a guitar player to appreciate this guys skills,,, but for someone who only thinks radio hits are worthy of bonus points, I will cut you some slack :)

Sarcasm aside, this is very much true. While Neal has aged some and he's probably not as technically sound as maybe a few years ago, he'd still dust this backwoods fucking hillbilly into submission in about 3 minutes. Where do you find these obscure artists full of nothing more than mediocrity, Behshad? Al Jazeera?  :P
