He's right and though the guys you mentioned here don't perpetuate that stereotype, for some reason this type of fan is represented more in Philadelphia than in other cities, in my opinion. I remember when Michael Irvin sustained a head injury in Philadelphia and the fans cheered that also. Pathetic.

A few thousand dopes cheered Irvin's career-ending (they couldn't have known it at the time, either) injury, not the entire 60 K in The Vet.
Shit, Jets fans did the same thing to their OWN QB and it's blown over in a matter of days.
Granted there are a too many Igglez Zealot morons, who have their entire income wrapped up in those damn personal seat licenses at the stadium but they're in the minority. It just LOOKS bad b/c they're SO outrageous as to be newsworthy.
Same with the pot-bellied scumbag Mets fans. The few idiots paint their whole fanbase with a wide brush of thug behavior.

Oh, hold the horn here.
It's WAGNER for chrissake.
That guy's about as bright as a dark night who does NOT understand playing baseball in the NE corridor.
Used to whine and bitch about Phillies phans sarcastically, good naturedly booing if he "only" hit 99 and not 100 on the radar gun.
Grow up, Wee Willy. You're also a choke artist mental midget who implodes in big spots.

He hasn't fared too well in the postseason but just about any team would take this guy.

Anymore he will implode in the big spot.
He's lost a few inches off the heater, too.
It started happening when he came to Philly.
I'll still take Brad Lidge.

the inconsistent Lidge over Wagner?...come, come now.
I still can't fathom why Wagner chose to copy Mariano Rivera's entrance song (Enter Sandman). I always thought he should have used "Billy's got a Gun"...something original anyways.

Lidge? Are you kidding me? He had a good couple of years with the Astros and has been horrible as a closer ever since.

Lidge??? You're nuts, dude! Don't let his 7 innings this season fool you! Lidge is VERY, VERY inconsistent, which is something you simply can't be, to be a front line closer!

Yep, I KNOW Lidge has been a headjob since the HR to Pujols.
That's how little I think of Wee Willy Wags in big spots.
he'll put up his 3 saves, get his 10 ks per 9 and NOT get the job done in August and September.
Happened here for 2 years and last year w/ NY.

My guess is they will end up using Gordon as the closer again before the end of the season, if not by the all-star break.

No.
Flashpoint Gordon's needle is on "E."
He can't close a high school jv game anymore.

I know...That's how bad Lidge has been as a closer the last two years.
I've always loved watching that guy pitch. Great curveball and a blazing fastball in the mid 90s as well when he was at the top of his game.

Forget Fastballs for a second.
I love that the 76 ers, yes the pathetic Sixers beat down Detroit. Too funny.

What's even more pathetic is that the 76ers are even in the playoffs to begin with.

Speaking as a lifetime Philly sports fan...
I ask you all to please keep the Marzano family in your thoughts and prayers.
Johnny Marz was 100% pure class. A true neighborhood guy and everyone's best friend.
God bless you, John.

Is this John Marzano, the same guy who was Boston's backup catcher for a few years? Love that guy.
Edit: Never mind...I see he probably had a heart attack and fell down a flight of stairs. Bummer. He seemed to be a decent dude.

Kicked Paul O'Neil's ass one time when O'Neil was crying about inside pitches and Johnny Marz told him to sack up.

eek...Ruining a good baseball thread with hoops?
Flash is flammable. Give me Ryan Madson or even JC Romero over him. I don't totally hate Lidge, as I'd take him over any of the aforemmentioned, but surely not over Wagner.

Are you kidding? JoPa not representative of that stereotype? The way he rides SP and his "loon" fans? Now, I realize his messageboard persona may be totally different than real life, but the same may be said for sports fanatics. I'm sure those fans relish the reputation they are getting with their stadium antics. Hell, they may be surpassing the Oakland Raiders crowd as the "worst" in sports.

I don't believe in, nor approve of the thuggery and verbal abuse in sports arenas in Philadelphia or anywhere else.
That doesn't change the fact that I'd boo perry's ass off if I saw him, nor does it change my choice to mock you loons for behaving like idiots.

Classy fans...more of the Philly Enquirer interview has Wagner stating that playing at Citizens Bank Park "is a tough place; it can be mentally draining." While warming up in the Bank's bullpen, Wagner said, he has heard his share of insults from fans. "They like to talk about your family members and animals," he said, "and they get a little explicit. It's a hard thing you have to swallow."
---Sounds like a great place to bring your young kids. "Mary's little lamb did what, daddy?"

Wagner is a fucking moron. The bullpen at Citizens Bank Park is so close to the fans, he is lucky all they did was talk about his family. He is a yellow, spineless, bitch. I'll bet that his NY teamates feel the same way his fellow Phils did.
He will choke again this September. Bank on it.
