LOL! I noticed that I made a typo when I was entering the subject for this thread, and put Shitesnake...

Image

Anyway, I JUST got my copy in -- it's a 2 disc set, with the 2nd being a bonus disc of live versions + an enhanced video. Popped it in, and it ROCKS!!!

The new WS is a very, very strong record! I'm loving it!!

Is it better than "Slip of the Tongue"? I was disappointed in that album after the awesome self-titled album in '87.

It's more aggressive, less slick than 'SOTT'...a pure Hard Rock record 'Snake style...

Compared to the crap on the radio, it's friggin' Sgt. Pepper.

I can't get into it yet, but I have only listened once. Not what I expected based on the reviews so I think I was a little thrown off. I will be jamming it tomorrow though.

I've never been a huge Whitesnake fan but for some reason I love David Coverdale's voice.

For a guy his age, he really can sing great.

That would have been as bad as my "Don Dokken's wrist is getting sore" comment!!

Rip - what are your favorite songs on the album?

LOL! Actually, I haven't listened to it much. Popped it into my PC for about 3 songs before I left the office, and have just now returned for it. The ballad at track 4 is very catchy... classic Whitesnake slow makeout music style with slithery leads... haha!

Anyway, I'll know a bit more tomorrow.

Just a quick update... I popped it in and didn't have long to listen to it, but in the car on my system, the production seems disappointingly muddy. That's not usually the case unless the disc itself is truly muddy, like Arrival or Rush's Vapor Trails. It will be interesting to see what everyone else thinks.

Also, I haven't been overly impressed with the album cover artwork -- to me it has sort of a cheap feel to it, but there is a great "picture" of the band inside -- they sure have a way of keeping D.C. looking pretty young! He looks better there than he did in the 80's... haha!

I'm guessing its called photoshop.

He does look good for his age, though, and he wails great too.

I was looking back - Dokken, Whitesnake, and the Scorpions toured in 2003 - what a tour that must have been!!

I've got a Dokken show from the tour and in between the songs Don says: "If you don't want to go to a Dokken, Whitesnake, and Scorpions concert, profanity, profanity, etc."

Good year for new music so far.

Whitesnake, Def Leppard, Asia, Journey, Bryan Adams, Steve Lukather, Dokken, AC/DC...

I'm loving it! OH, and the new Marillion disc this year too... woo!

I'm probably conusing the technique, but the picture is sort of a 70's-ish embossed look, and it's very cool. The style and coloring reminds me of the cover for Robert Plant's Manic Nirvana, just to give you an idea, except it's D.C. in front, and the other guys in various poses behind him.

You said you had a copy of that Dokken show?

Dang it, you brought out the most important point, and that is, this disc is really all about Dokken! Everything comes back to Dokken in the end (or more accurately, "In The Living End"). By the way, have you heard LSA yet?

Not yet... but I'm two weeks into a new job so my music-purchasing income will be significantly jumpstarted starting this weekend.

I'd say I'll have LSA along with Asia's newest within the next couple weeks. 8)

Also, I may try to find a way to get Lukather's disc for cheap without having to import it.

Several great songs on that disc, but yes, it was still somewhat of a letdown after the previous album. I think the main mistake was the choice of Steve Vai as the flavor-of-the-day hired gun guitarist. Great player, no doubt, but he's always had a cartoonish style and a thin sound to me, and it just didn't measure up to Sykes.

Vai is one of my alltime favorites, but agree, didn't quite pull it off with Whitesnake (except for Judgement Day - love that one).

I saw them live on this tour as well, which was actually very, very good...

i loved the awesome '87 self titled effort so i went and bought 'slip of the tongue' the day it was released in 1990 and lets just say i was very disapointed and so much so that my neighbor wanted to listen to it and i said you can have it.having to walk a mile to the record store didn't help the matter either, lol.me and my walkman had some fun walks buying first day releases from aerosmith, extreme, kiss, styx, tesla, rush, etc. but that whitesnake was one time my feet didn't appreciate that long walk and neither did my ears.i'm looking forward to this one being a better effort than the last time. :D

Do they mention from when the Live Tracks from the Bonus Disc are? I have a Live Double CD from 2006 (Live.. In the Shadow of the Blues) but I'm not sure if this CD was released in the USA and I don't want to buy double...
