Well, if this is really him and not some youtube prankster, I think it's a bit of a mistake. drawing attention to dickheads like myself  that don't necessarily think he's the shit, is only going to encourage those that hate his role in jrny (I do not include myself in that later pool, as I don't give enough of a shit).

But seriously...there's a bit of martyr syndrome going on with the whole 'to my supporters and detractors' bit. He'd have been far better off not even mentioning the detractors. It speaks to the fact that he actually reads some of this shit...and the ones that really want to get under his skin will actually step it up, not back down.

Oh well....my $0.03 (adjusted for inflation thanks to hayseed bush)

Hopefully he'll realize this comes with the job. No singer after Perry has escaped this kind of treatment.

Agreed...and not only that...no singer wins when they actually fight back.

I wonder what the reaction to Perry would have been if he was around in the internet era. I can imagine during the split up, there would be some fierce warring going on.

He's already won. He's getting paid to sing for one of the best known bands in the world. How can he lose by acknowledging that there are some haters out there, a diminutive dim-witted group of individuals who feel as if it's their place in life to say all that is bad when in actuality, there is so much more good than bad. OPEN YOUR EYES

Loved Scorpions back in the day, Klaus Meine has a harsh accent but I'm cool with that, just like I'm okay with Arnel's less harsh one because the music matters.
Do you dump the Rolls because it has a dent in the fender? Do you kick the hot chick out of bed just because she has a tatoo of someone else's name? Do you leave Hawaii because it rains at times? Some of you have already said YES. Me, I say no because I know that in spite of those SMALL issues, that things are completely copacetic.

Sorry pal...I've been in this world alot longer than you have. My eyes are wide open. However, point of correction. your hearing is the sense most important in judging this dog and pony....but considering what you've said since becoming a poster less than 5 months ago, it doesn't surprise me that you listen with your eyeballs. Did that home depot rug come with handles or did you sew them on yourself?

The point that was made, which has flown way above your head...is that to draw attention to this, instead of taking the high road, only results in additional negativitity. JSS discovered that the hard way. While I understand what you're trying to do here...you should recognize the fact that I am not posting this in an attempt to detract from Arnel. I'm only calling attention to the fact that such a statement was a bit of a faux pas. Call it a rookie mistake. When you do such a thing, you lose.

The high road is only a high road if you don't take a detour on the dirt path....

I actually agree with you strangegrey and that doesn't happen often. Arnel just needs to ignore the detractors and let the music speak for him. No one can change a person's opinion, they have to change it themself. Too much defending also just makes people dig their heals in and solidifies their original opinion.

How is he fighting back? That message is just an acknowledgement of all the people that surrounds him and that includes those who oppose him. but ofcourse just like everything else he does is being taken to a different level and being analyzed in a microscope. Arnel could just type Hi on there and would also be brought down and be discussed by some people.

And that's my point. At this stage of the game there are some who will do exactly that. He's better off not even acknowledging those who are not yet onvinced. All Arnel needs to do is keep making great music for all the fans of Journey and Arnel. As strangegrey stated: JSS, and the rest of the band have all learned it the hard way. There will always be some who will never be convinced that Arnel is great with Journey no matter what he, you or anyone else says or does.

We need to just enjoy the new music, new friends and the concerts this summer. It's all good. :)

Your post is spot on. And like SG said, JSS learned this the hard way.

Damn it, that's twice, nice post again. The best thing Arnel can do is not address the detractors, keep his head down, stay POSITIVE in his message, and the future will develop as positively as it can. For those who aren't convinced of Arnel, if he can stay positive and cordial, he will turn many of those folks around with time. Augeri set a damn good example of this approach when he came on board and as a result, turned around a lot of nay sayers over time.

You obviously have a colored view of this and you also do not have a very deep historical knowledge of this. JSS reacted to the detractors and it bit him in the ass. The only one that got it was Augeri...and even then, people did their best to cut his legs out from under him.

If you're going to sing for this band, you're going to have detractors. Calling attention to it is pointless, counterproductive...and can definitely backfire...that's all some of us are trying to point out.

He's far better off not even mentioning it. Instead, thanking the supporters and getting on with life. Instead, he's scratching the itch some people have for him....not smart.

Are you becoming a preacher strangegrey?
I liked that line and had to post on it, please take no offence.
On a thread note.....
I thought it was due fitting in form for Arnel to address his fans and critics.

Doubt it. I'm about as much a preacher as George Clooney's character in Dusk Til Dawn.

I view this message, if indeed he wrote it, as a big, fat "Suck my Filipino cock, bitches" to his detractors. Love it.

Oh for fucks sake, you're joking right?

You mean to turn this into a racial thing? Holy fuck, I really do see it all here. So the US culture is less evolved, less enlightened, more jaded, then...right!? Is that what you're trying to say?

Holy shit...the guy made a PR mistake. While Dan may like Arnie thumbing his nose, it might not have a positive effect elsewhere. Thats the only point that was being made.

For fucks sake....don't make this a racial thing...it's not justified...and it just makes you look like you're grasping for air on a basic concept.

Dude...let's get this straight SG. Are you now saying that you have a complete understanding on the Filipino intellect and culture. I call shenanigans on this one.
The concept of respect there is WAY DIFFERENT THERE than here. Here in America, is there a word that acknowledges your older siblings with respect? Nope. In the Philippines, it's an an everyday think to hear words like Kuya, Ate, Manong, Manang etc, etc.
So that raised in a different culture aspect is RELEVANT.

Just admit you don't know shit about the Philippines instead of talking like your the pre-eminent expert on all things.

I'm 40 going on 41....how long have you been on the planet?

I don't give a rat's ass about how long I've been here. I'm here and debunking the bulk of your shit posts(although some of them have been great like the gas thing).

"Sincerity" is written all over the message strangegrey - not sarcasm. And he certainly is not fighting back. Essentially, on top of his supporters, he's also acknowledging (and thankful to) his critics for making him aware of the areas he needs to work on to polish his craft . The guy's so grateful, he's loving "everybody." Jon Cain did mention in his recent interview that he's a sweet soul.

Oh, so now the Arneliots here are finally drawing a distinction between cultural and racial?!?!?!?!?!...I see. I guess it the distinction only falls into place when it suits your needs!

Ttango...I never said I have a shred of understanding of Filipino culture. The only thing I have a remote understanding of, thanks to some of the attention called to it here, is that some filipinos have an affinity for canine cooked in a wok.

However...having said that, let me address something here. We're not talking about filipino culture...we're talking about US culture. *Arnel* is the visitor here. Not the other way around. I guess, this sense of 'entitlement' with the new filipino fan base in Journey shouldn't surprise me. I don't give a flying fuck what is apropriate for public relations in Manilia. I am concerned with and educated with apropriate behavior when addressing the public in the US. ESPECIALLY potential consumers of your product here in the US.

Arnel's statement was a bit of a miscue here. nothing more nothing less. it's quite aparent by your desperation to make more out of this than it is, that there's something more to it than meets the eye. Perhaps this sense of unjustified entitlement some of you shoulder... I dunno. Care to explain?
