And the "Album of the year" award goes to...

Alright, let's try this again Andrew! I posted this before the server issues. So anyway, like I was saying, you can go ahead and prepare the "Album of the year goes to Journey". This album is going to kick some serious ass!!! There is no other MR band in the world right now, that's going to touch this album!

I'm seriously willing to bet the shirt off of my back that they're getting this award this year. I know a lot of you don't agree with me here, but I think this is going to be their best album since Raised On Radio!

I remember being SO excited to hear Trial By Fire, but when it came out I felt extremely dissappointed. It had a different sound (Perry's voice had noticeably changed) and the feel seemed very different than any other album. I have grown to love the album, but in a different way. This album brings me back to the 80's!!!

This seems to be a pretty experimental album (in the way that Frontiers was) and from what I've heard of the clips so far...I think they've got a serious album here that surpases anything else they've written since Perry was at the helm. "Change for the better" sounds like a new "Chain Reaction", "After all These Years" is a beautifull ballad. "What I needed" is another dark ballad/mid tempo rocker that reminds me of "Mother Father", or "Winds of March". That song is freaking beautifull!!!

Again, I know a lot of you won't agree with me here, but I predict that once this album comes out, it'll get better reviews than the last 3 or 4 albums (if you include Red 13  )

This is the best year for "New" music in the last 8-10 years IMHO, and I'm freaking pumped!!!

cant comment on this until it's released....hard to judge from the clips.

But Whitesnake's Good To Be Bad, House Of Lords Come to My Kingdom, and the yet to be released Extreme album should all be seriously considered as either strong competition or possible winners....

Thanks for the re-post.

In my reply I mentioned other contenders that will come into play -

Harem Scarem
JSS
Brother Firetribe
House Of Lords
Bob Catley
Jimi Jamison/Jim Peterik
Rick Springfield
Whitesnake

And I have heard one advance track from another release that could actually "out-Journey" Journey!

As for the Journey album - I'll let you know in June. I haven't heard one note of the new stuff yet.

And there is a couple of Angelmlik Records releases that will I think impress and surprise some folks :)

I agree COMPLETELY with you, great post. And I disagree with Andrew that ANY band will out-Journey Journey, particularly Journey 2008! I believe this album will prove a rebirth of Journey, and that there can be life after Perry, now that they have FINALLY found another incredible singer in Arnel!

I had a couple of possibilities in mind, but it probably wasn't what you were thinking.

Has anyone heard the new Judas Priest disc yet? That's probably a little too metal for melodic cd of the year, but something I'm looking forward to. Who else has releases this year?

Didn't say WOULD, I said COULD. I was having a little fun, but still expect J fans to be impressed by wha I have heard also.

But you are right - I'm sure Journey will not be out done in their own style. Time will tell.

So far from what Ive heard, I would put this as the most complete album since ROR. I haven't heard one song or clip that I don't like. Except maybe FITH, think I like the original better. Wanna hear the whole disc first though.

Just taking a stab at who Andrew might be talking about here:

Ramos/Hugo

Can you tell me if I'm right Drew? :D

I dont think the new Lepper CD belongs on this list at all.

Someone put their finger on what bothers me about it at another site. There are some good tracks...but for the most part, they've got some hard on about simply rehashing 70s glam rock...basically the shit they rerecorded on yeah! only this time, they write this stuff...instead of rerecord someone elses 70s glam rock crap that no one wants to listen to.

DL needs to record an album that harkens back to pyromania meets hysteria....they've not been able to do that since hysteria...and that's the reason they're a footnote....

Oh well, I still think that revelations is going to have to be a complete nipple erection to come close to beating Good To Be Bad....that record is that good!

Oh how I wish. If I had to hazard a guess, even if the voice had a full album of material to put out, seriously doubt it would be in a Journey vein. More likely it would be an albums worth of slow tempo jazzy and/or melancholy ballads. I'll take it of course, but I wouldn't compare it with Journey.

Album of the Year vs. WHAT?
How does anyone know this until Jan 1, 2009 at the earliest?
And what's the criteria?

This thread is a complete joke, no?

later~

I don't give a damn WHO goes up against this album.....I think you're going to have a hard time finding a better, more complete kick-ass album than this! As big of a fan as I was of Augeri, I think Arnel brings something new and unexplainable to the table. Take my word for it, this album WILL exceed your expectations! If I'm wrong, the jokes on me. I'll ship you the shirt off my back. How's that???

I'd love to hear who it is, but I guess a tease is all we get???

I do have to say in all seriousness, there are some AWESOME albums out/coming out this year and there'll be a LOT of competition! Asia, Work of Art, Whitesnake, Toto (Live), Lukather, Def Leppard, Me (Just joking you bastards!). I've never been so excited about albums coming out before! 2008 is DEFINITELY going to be a year to remember IMHO.

Considering it is only May 1, 2008 is shaping up very well indeed.
