Where's the "black book" we kept hearing about?

From the NY Times:

TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) — A woman convicted two weeks ago of running a Washington call-girl ring that catered to the capital’s power elite was found dead here Thursday, and the authorities said she had apparently hanged herself.

The body of the woman, Deborah Jeane Palfrey, 52, was found in a shed at her mother’s home here about 20 miles northwest of Tampa. The police said Ms. Palfrey had left a notebook containing at least two suicide notes and other messages to her family, but they did not give additional details.

Blanche Palfrey had no sign that her daughter was suicidal, and there was no immediate indication that alcohol or drugs were involved, Capt. Jeffrey Young of the Tarpon Springs Police Department said.

In the aftermath of her conviction, she remained free while awaiting sentencing on July 24. Under sentencing guidelines, she faced about five or six years in prison, Channing Phillips, the spokesman for the United States attorney in the District of Columbia, said Thursday.

But Ms. Palfrey had vowed that she would never go to prison. When she disclosed telephone records last year that revealed the identity of some of her clients, she told ABC: “I’m sure as heck not going to be going to federal prison for one day, let alone four to eight years, because I’m shy about bringing in the deputy secretary of whatever. Not for a second. I’ll bring every last one of them in if necessary.”

Despite that threat, Ms. Palfrey’s trial concluded without the testimony of either Mr. Vitter or another particularly prominent client, Randall L. Tobias. Mr. Tobias resigned as a senior State Department official last year after he had been linked to the escort service, though he said he had used it only for massages. Mr. Vitter, who is married and has four children, remains a first-term member of the Senate.

Dan Moldea, a Washington writer who befriended Ms. Palfrey while considering writing a book about her, said she had been cautiously optimistic about her trial.

After the conviction, however, Mr. Moldea sent her two messages but did not hear back, he said.

After hearing of her death Thursday, he recalled a conversation over dinner last year when the subject of prison came up.

“I will commit suicide first,” he remembered her saying.

One of the escort service’s employees was Brandy Britton, a former professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, who was arrested on prostitution charges in 2006. Ms. Britton committed suicide in January before she could go to trial.

This is very interesting considering there were a lot of "important" people whose names were on her list that she had threatened to make public. I'm wondering if it was really a suicide or if it was just made to look like one.

Yeah, she did it at her mother's trailer park, and her mother said she saw her just before a short nap, and found her when she woke up. If someone made her do this, they're professionals.

She had stated that she would kill herself before she went to prison...

I heard her on Art Bell's old show a few weeks ago. She sounded very upbeat and definitely intelligent.
So she was going to prison and NOTHING was going to be done regarding her patrons?

We spend too much time worrying where politicians put their p#ckers than whether they are actually good at their jobs. Give every politician who gets our troops out of Iraq a free Monica(or manicure if it's a she)!

They should legalize prosititution, tax it, then put the Bush twins to work.

Let someone in that family do some good for once!

Back to the dead-women-tell-no-tales story line:

It seems to be widely taken for granted that Ms. Palfrey had more, bigger, juicier names to name than the handful of prominent customers who have surfaced:

— Senator David Vitter, Republican of Louisiana, who has clung to office;

Randall L. Tobias, who had to resign his senior State Department post but who soft-landed as head of the Indianapolis Airport Authority;

Harlan Ullman, a top military strategist who advised the Bush Administration.

Seems if she was to be punished, so should these guys for using the service. Tobias ends up in charge of the Airport Authority? :shock:

Inequity at its finest.

How coincidental that she and one of the women working for her (who was also a university professor) both committed suicide. Something's rotten in the state of Denmark

Sadly because most people love this sort of news..just look at how much of what gets posted as news is either ratialy related or about some sick family member.
Not to many good news stories get posted.

I hope that they dust her ass for fingerprints cause I'm betting there'll be Hillary's, Bill's, Chelsea's, Hell even maybe Bush and the VPs will have had a hand on her ass at least once. I mean come on, this chick was running a friggin escort service in DC for crying out loud? Who in DC needs to pay for pussy? That's right, all the old politicians and their family members.

This is another inside job and another cover up to suppress the media. Too many high ranking officials involve. Just my .02 cents...

Of course it is. Not about the media part though because they are just as bad. This is just a more believable suicide unlike the ones we heard about in the past where Clinton's associate was found after he had cut off his own head out somewhere. If this chick really did off herself, I would think she'd have sent a few hundred copies of the client log book to various organizations and individuals first.
