Michael Rosenbaum Departs Smallville

Dear Smallville Fans,

Well, it's been seven wonderful years. Your support is what has made Smallville so successful, and I appreciate you all more than you know.

That being said, it is time for me to start the next chapter of my life and career. I hope that I gave you some enjoyment over the years, and that you found my portrayal of Lex Luthor to be satisfying. I am truly grateful, as Smallville fans are the best fans out there. I sincerely hope that you will continue to follow my career through my hair growth period and beyond.

I'm very excited about what the future holds, but certainly, Smallville will always be a part of me. I will definitely miss the greatest crew in the world, and the wonderful cast that has been like a family to me.

Thank you Al and Miles for creating the show. Thank you writers, producers, directors and editors. Thanks Tollin, Robbins and Davola for being there for the pilot. Thank you Peter Roth for employing me for ten years. Lisa Lewis, I miss you already. John Glover, thanks for helping me feel more comfortable touching other actors, while acting. Bizarre, but helpful.

Mostly, I want to thank Greg Beeman for directing the "Oh Sherry" video, by Steve Perry, back in the 80's.

Thanks crew. Thanks fans. Thanks Smallville.

I love you all,

Michael Rosenbaum

The guy who plays Lex Luther in the Smallville Superman series is leaving. Sent out a letter of thanks to the fans. And then I think added a tongue in cheek comment about the director of the awful but fantastic Perry video. Perhaps the director worked on Smallville?

Ahh well all makes sense.

Always nice to see Perry references in the Media 8)

THIS SUCKS!!!
He's a GREAT actor on that show. Very convincing as Lex Luthor and one of the reasons I watch it. MUCH more convincing than Hackman or Spacey from the films.

This is a real drag. With Lionel gone and Lex gone, the show's pretty much gotta be done now...

Yeah Spacey was awful.. as was that whole entire film. So many plot flaws, and the characters had no chemistry.

spacey's a great actor, but that movie, god what a waste. The Smallville cast (sans Lana) would've been better in the movie, but the story sucked big time. Everything did. Probably best they weren't involved.

Smallville's been on for 10 years?

Wait, what?

Gene Hackman is the only Lex Luthor I would consider watching. Loved his fat-ass, dumb fuck partner, too.

Hackman is a flat out stone cold acting GENIUS.

Wasn't Buddy Hacket the meaty sidekick?

I don't watch Smallville so I can't offer an opinion on the actor other than I like his sense of humor! 8)

Hackman's a genius.
In Superman, he was wasted. Rosenbaum blows all of the others away. Really good acting as Luthor. Seriously, watch the dvds.

Wow, everybody is a fan of SP.
I sense, with this relevation, Smallville will be wrapping up the series soon. First, they did away with the Kents. Then, just recently, killed off Lionel and Lana. Lex must be working toward getting his just desserts. Last week, the shift is already on for the "adult" Clark to get away from the farm and go work in the big city -- most certainly at the Daily Planet, with Lois Lane. Somehow, after the smothering relationship of Clark&Lana the last 7 or so years, I just don't see any chemistry between this Lois and Clark.
.... haha .... another analogy to Journey, the band.

Hackman's a genius.

And when their lies don't match your lies I'm gonna hurt you.
And not gentle like before, but bad."-----Unforgiven

I've been waiting for Lana to buy the farm for years. She SUCKS and totally drags the show down.

NoNo! Lana did not suck. She played good girl-bad girl-good girl throughout this whole series very well  . All the while, keeping our superhero, Clark, with his puppy eyes and longing expression, enraptured with her very being. (Sigh) It is the ultimate love story of unrequitted lovers doomed from the start. What more can you ask for?

I just learned of this today, and amazingly, they are replacing Lex with two villains. One, a to-be-revealed female nemesis, and the other -- DOOMSDAY! WHAT?!? How the hell are they planning on pulling that off?

Ha, I was waitin for you to weigh in...
yeah, the Doomsday thing wreaks of 'we need something that will be huge and hopefully divert people from lamenting the fact that Luthor's gone". Yeah, it's a bit early in the mythology to introduce the thing that kills Superman. Who knows, they've taken a lot of liberties with the mythology, maybe it will be Doomsday killing Clark Kent rather than Superman.

Too bad Lionel was offed. If he was still there, I'd have high hopes as he's a helluva character, but Lionel, Lex, and I also heard Lana's leaving (YAY!), I'm not sure how the show will endure.
