After listening to the new clips many many times...

Postby Journey69 » Sun May 04, 2008 5:19 pm

I love Arnel's voice bigtime..A girlfriend who was over tonight never heard him before and she just loved him..She also liked Augeri and I played some Arrival for her and she went bonkers.. I know I will get ripped for this, but I don't think this new album is going to touch Arrival.. Arrival had everything on it and it rocked period! I loved how Augeri sang it and it was true to Journey's sound. World Gone Wild has to be one of the coolest Journey song's ever!! I don't care if no one agree's with me..That's how I feel.. The new stuff is just too damn slow. Like Andrew said, where's all the Seperate Ways,Escape type guitar? I don't like how Arnel drags notes out so long, what is the purpose for that..Singing it his way? C'mon. I do not have the same feeling for the new clips that I did when I heard the Arrival clips and the clip of Remember me..That song reminded me of old Journey and I remember how Augeri's vocals made it work so well...Like I said just my opinion..

:)

Every album is going to be different... and thank goodness each one is.

On Revelation, Wildest Dream has a decent tempo, and Never Walk Away isn't so slow either...
but I get what you're saying about it wanting for harder tracks. The sustain on the last syllable
is just Arnel's default style.* While he can recognize where it's appropriate and where it isn't,
you have to understand the somewhat-rushed schedule he was handed.

If he'd had more time to get into some songs before recording them, maybe he might have ironed out
more of these little kinks that bother you. Then again, maybe that's really how he and the others
feel the songs should be sung, and I'm sure some of us think they're fine just the way they are.

Cheer up! :)
If, with rather limited prep, Arnel could still deliver what he did on this album, you're lkely going to love
what he does with the same material at present, live, having had more time to feel his way around.
What's in store for us in future albums ought to be scary great.

I look forward to hearing the complete album, but I too have serious doubts about it. I hear two or three samples that might live up to Journey's legacy, but I'll have to hear the whole songs to know for sure. On Arrival, I heard classic Journey in so many songs: Higher Place, Loved by You, Livin to Do, All the Things, and We Will Meet Again - and there were other standout tracks as well. That album sounded like it picked up where Frontiers left off - something you could never say for Raised on Radio or Trial By Fire.

Of course, Revelation is almost certain to be a bigger hit that Arrival, because of the WalMart deal. But I will be very surprised if I'm listening to it seven years later like I do Arrival.

You guys are right, but I think if Arrival was released the same way as this album will be,it would have been a bigger hit. I'm a giant SP fan,but I am also realistic and know he's not coming back, nor do I really want him too if he just delivers ballads.. I still think Arrival is at the top with all my fav Journey albums. It has nothing to do with legacy or any of that,it all comes down to how much you listen to it and I think I wore out the disk..I listened to that album just as much as Escape and Frontiers.. I just think the new album isn't going to have enough rockers on it.. I would love to know who's idea it is to slow it down? I can't think Neal didn't go along with it,he must have..But when I listen to Hardline and Bad English and see how hard those rocked,I'm just shocked that They are softening up Journey so much.. Kinda depressing..

To me it sounds like Neal is still rockin', but the rest of the music isn't. But I had similar problems with Arrival. I love the CD but always sounded like the music would rock but the vocals were song to slow. There seems to be a problem with the lyrical structure of the songs...

I think so too....if Arrival had the opportunity that Revelations is getting, it would have been a big album for Journey...

You guys are all wrong. This album sucks more than ANY of their previous albums. They will not go anywhere with it. Can you say "Cutout Bin"?. This singer, God, what a friggin' gay voice... You couldn't pay me to buy it or go to their shows. I hope they friggin' crash and burn and take this singer with them...

oh...

wait...

I disagree completely. AND even with myself being a huge Augeri fan back then (and now having awoken to reality), and now having hear Arnel, there is simply no comparison. Arrival bombed for a number of reasons, 1 big one being that Augeri simply wasn't good enough- let's be honest. Arnel, on the other hand, is clearly showing that he has the chops for this gig and thus the band is getting much more support behind Revelations. If we are being completely honest, "support" for Journey from within the industry comes from there being a singer who compares overall to Perry. Augeri was not even close "overall". Arnel is. Journey consistenly creates great music- it simply has been lacking GREAT lead vocals since Perry left....until now.

I predict that Revelations will be hugely successful, compared to Arrival's success. Compared to Escape? I doubt it will even be in the ballpark- let's face it, the music industry is VERY different than it was when Escape was released. The 18-25 year olds drive music sales and they are listening to rap-CRAP.

Actually. MANY of "the kids" are NOT listening to this...but the record labels and radio haven't noticed yet...

I know more people between 16 and 22 that would rather die than buy a rap album, than ones that actually purchase rap let alone steal it.
