Coverdale says Zeppelin will tour

David Coverdale says that Led Zeppelin will reunite for a full scale tour in celebration of their 40th anniversary.

Coverdale said that he believes a Zeppelin reunion tour is "very likely" and told gigwise.com, "I'm expecting a call from Jimmy (Page) any day asking my band Whitesnake to support them on their world tour. Am I on board? You bet. Probably worth billions. Unlike rolling out the wheelchairs with the umpteenth Rolling Stones world tour, a Led Zeppelin tour will be incredible."

London's The Mirror claims that the Zeppelin reunion could take place as early as end of the year and could net the group members around $20 million each.

Led Zeppelin -- Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, along with Jason Bonham filling in for this father the late John Bonham -- reunited on December 10th at London's O2 Arena. Despite numerous offers to hit the road, the band has held off on making any future plans as a group at least until September when Plant wraps up his live commitments with Alison Krauss.
In 1993 David Coverdale and Jimmy Page recorded one album as a duo called Coverdale-Page.

Do I think Zep will tour? Of course...I've already said as much several times here.

Do I think that Whitesnake will be tabbed as the opening act, if in fact there is an opening act?

Nah...

$20 million each sounds low to me. I hope they record each show and release a monster DVD.

I have to dig out the Coverdale/Page CD and give it a listen.

20 mil seems low to me as well. I thought someone posted a rumor that they were offered close to 100 mil? (which seems unrealistic as well).

It's funny to me how many 80's era bands are claiming to be first in line to open for Zeppelin's reunion tour. All they're doing is raising their hands via public interviews, saying: "ooh! Pick me! Pick me!"

Wasn't Robert Plant perturbed at Jimmy Page's collaboration with Coverdale back in the 80's? I mean Coverdale's vocal choices, look and stage mannerisms were obviously derived from Robert Plant. If he was annoyed, I wonder if he'd have a shot at opening?

Will the tour happen? Hmmmm... don't know. Depends on Robert's voice. Can he sustain a tour like that today?

I don't see that comment as DC "knowing" anything...just sort of being flippant & funny..."Oh yeah...Jimmy's gonna call and as Whitesnake to do it..."

Riiiiiigght... 8)

Now that I re-read it, you're probably right. I still remember when Ian Astbury of The Cult was claiming way back when that his band was on notice as the opening act.

Exactamundo...

The story was written to sound as though Coverdale was stating fact...if he ever actually said those words, lol.

The difference being that Coverdale is/was a far better vocalist than Plant ever was.

JP and DC are still close mates, so it does not seem a stretch to me that Coverdale would have some inside info and possibly expect the opening slot.

As far as Coverdale stealing style and moves from Plant, I have to disagree. Those "moves" and style were definately Coverdale's from that time period. Different from his style in the 70s, but the same as his act in Whitesnake in the 80s.

I think it would be very cool if in fact Whitesnake got the opening slot on a Zeppelin tour.

Even as an opinion thats a silly statement

If this were true ,Coverdale wouldnt have had to steal Plants style/mannerisms and pieces to his songs to get recognized.Image

I don't think he's so far off the mark. I think Coverdale has a MUCH stronger voice then Plant does.

No need to apologize. More often than not, I'm in agreement with his thoughts as well.

But definitely not this time. I'd rather see Plant sing one Zep tune than watch Coverdale do his entire catalog.

This one would be great. Can't wait to hear it live myself next month:

And they would be wrong. If you throw out history and just compare both voices in their prime, I would take Coverdale any day. Plant's voice has never blown me away, but I certainly respect his place in rock history. Somebody start a poll... :)

Just don't think Plant wants to do a full scale tour. He likes stretching his musical boundaries. That's actually kind of refreshing these days. Maybe he will be strong armed into doing it, but he doesn't have to, and is more concerned about evolving musically even in the later years of his career.

Plant is good...no question. Coverdale borrowed from Plant...no question. Coverdale is a technically better singer...no question.

Just because Plant has been "borrowed from" doesn't make him better than the borrower...just first.

Plant also borrowed from singers before him. I've heard him say as much in interviews. Happens in every genre of music and with every type of musical instrument, including the human voice.

WHITESNAKE frontman David Coverdale has contacted UK's Classic Rock magazine to set the record straight about his band's so-called plans to go on tour with LED ZEPPELIN.

Earlier in the week Coverdale was quoted as saying: "I'm expecting a call from Jimmy [Page] any day asking my band WHITESNAKE to support them on their world tour. Am I on board? You bet. Probably worth billions.”

In an e-mail to Classic Rock's Geoff Barton, Coverdale requested: "May I call upon your assistance, if needed, ol' cock, to help put out this shitstorm that be gathering steam about me supposedly saying I'm awaiting Lord Page's call to invite me to be the supporting act on the forthcoming LED ZEPPELIN world tour.

"What fucking world tour, we ask ourselves? We're already out on our Good To Be Bad world tour, thank you very much!"

Coverdale continued: "I have no idea where this started, Geoffers. But, with the wildfire of the internet, my poor ol' German publicist is fighting them off with her rusty, but trusty, Luger.

"I assure you there is no… (of course there fucking isn't) …any foundation in this.

"Why, after all the charming back-and-forths between one Monsieur Plant and oneself through the years, who could imagine such a premise possible? Not me, squire!

"Besides," Coverdale concluded, "I've got a hit record and a sold-out tour, and I'm currently pretty fucking busy playing nightly, and joyfully, with my Fab Musical Serpents, ol' chum! No complaints here…"
