I just listened to this for the first time in years, and I honestly forgot just how emotive this song really is. EVERYONE in the band shines on this one. Anyone else have any love for this one?

It's an OK tune. I love Neal's playing on it but it's not one of my favorites. Also, I think I remember reading somewhere that Rolie didn't care much for it.

I can see his point since he didn't do too much (still was a factor however), but that song has some power to it. I think it may be one of their most underrated songs after kinda "rediscovering" it after all this time.

Check this one out. People and Places. I absolutely hated this song when Departure came out, but now I can't stop listening to it.

Heh, yeah that one had to kinda grow on me too, but from the first listen I thought it would be one of those kinda songs that I would eventually like if that makes any sense.

Sighs...

With his voice he reaches!
Deep into your heart
like an ocean forever on a quest
Timbre quivering on the edge of star
Lighting our way into the depths
This is the voice of Steve Perry

I always thought this was one of their 5-6 totally crap Perry-era songs - along with Castles Burning, Back Talk, LTS, Positive Touch, and Can't Tame the Lion.

It is what it is...perhaps just a
Sweet memory from times gone by
Like a flicker in a candle
Shadows dancing upon the wall in moonlight
A moment captured in song it soars
Into our hearts like a dream it comes alive

I think the only crappy songs before ROR are Lady Luck and Precious Time (I know most fans love that one, but I always skip it).

Back Talk and Dead or Alive for me. I also can live without a lot of Infinity, Evolution, and Departure.

"I'm Cryin'" to me is a good example of the songwriting strength that Jonathan Cain brought into the band.

I agree to all the above BUT I'm Cryin'. Like several of you, I didn't care for the song much back in the day, but now...I really dig it. I'm that way with several songs from the Infinity-Evolution-Departure era...which were my favorite three albums. The songs were all very different. Neal really changed up his guitar techniques throughout the albums. Now they seem all about the same.

I hear ya! I hope so too, would love a crisp, clean, remastered copy of that. Hmmm, but not before the Mountainaire ROR show.

Not a big fan of Lady Luck either, but "Can Do" gets my nod for crappiest J song.

"Can Do" is not one of their best, but I kind of dig the chorus and the way Neal's solo stutter-starts before finally chugging along...

This song, "I'm cryin'" the studio version, I'm not crazy about...kinda weird lyrics & one certain part of SP's voice sounds odd/comical to me.

wow. i don't get that at all.

what is life without Infinity. i wear an Infinity bracelet 24/7, i'm that serious about it.

wow. BT is cool as heck and DOA is da bomb.

i love it that journey is so diverse. dang that's cool that we all can love the music differently. (does that make sense?)
