I know people here "dabble" in other forms/styles of music, and I was wondering what "country" artists people here actually don't mind listening to from time to time.

I like stuff with good choruses and a good beat. Most of the stuff I like that may be in the country catagory, also has alot of "Rock" elements to it.

I have a good friend that just split up with his wife and started dating another lady. She's all about country, and has gotten my friends musical head all fucked up. He's been after me to listen to 'this cd by Rascall Flatts' and 'that cd by Kenny Chesney', so, as a good friend, I did it. I put the records on my ipod and really tried to give it a fair and honest chance. That space those records took up on my ipod was soon made available, as I cannot for the life of me figure out how anyone can listen to that shit, knowing there are stores full of razor blades that can take you out of that misery.

I'll listen to almost anything, but those are probably my favorites.

Not really a fan of country (Eagles and Poco are about as 'country' as I go), but that song "it's hard to kiss the lips at night that chew your ass out all day long" makes me laugh.

I listen to a little bit of country. Mainly Keith Urban. All his stuff is just fantastic!!

All of the "New school" bands I named have some strong AOR moments in their music...

Brad Paisley is without a doubt, one of the best country guitarists out there. I liken him to the equivalent of a country EVH (circao 1986). Even the mistakes sound inspired by a higher power.

I also have Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Montgommery Gentry, Sugarland and others in significantly heavy rotation in my music collection.

It's actually damn difficult for me to listen to MR these days, after spinning some Chesney or Paisley. These guys seem downright genuine with their delivery...and the big difference is that they are making relevant music, now!

I can't speak to the genuine nature of today's MR or whether or not the remain relevant....with much assertion.

Today's country is (mostly) laughably bad ( Carrie Firggin Underwood??? Com'on T bone!) BUT- I'm down with the Ronnie Milsap (Ronnie was the shit!) and it simply doesn't get better than Johnny, Waylon, Willie and Kris!!! Now THAT'S country!!!

While the guys got chops, the song sucks...bad lyrics.

And thats what makes guys like Keith Urban and Brad Paisley amazing, in that they're tripple threats. They can play with amazing feel and chops, they can sing extremely well....and they're fantastic songwriters.

I like country. mostly before about 1994. Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney and Rascal Flatts make me want to kill myself. Chris LeDoux (may he rest in peace) is my fav.

Country music should be banned. Willie Nelson gets a free pass though.

Not much into country either. Heck, move on already.....who wants their dog back, their husband back, their truck back........... I've only ever been to one country concert my entire life and that was Garth Brooks......it was great. None of them really move me like a soulful rock vocal. But I do like stuff from Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Brooks & Dunn and a few others.

And have to say, Martina McBride can sing circles around most anybody out there. That little gal has an incredible voice.

Modern country = Bon Jovi + hick accent + funny-looking hat.

Keeping in mind that most of the acts I enjoy aren't country in the pure sense of the genre, I do enjoy country-inspired rock, like:

Rascal Flatts
Restless Heart
Blackhawk
Tim McGraw
Brad Paisley (as stated, this guy can PLAY guitar)
Poco
Nickel Creek (bluegrass as much as country inspired, but still)
some of Mark Knopfler's latter day work
Pure Prairie League

The singing and musical chops in most of these bands are to be respected, if not admired. Some of the most incredible musicians, pound for pound, can be found in country/country rock.

Also if you like this kind of sound, check out the CD Tom Petty just released of his early band, Mudcrutch. It is absolutely fantastic 70s-style country rock with very nice updated production. Can't recommend it enough
