Ok, something is starting to really bug me
and I gotta get it off my man-boobs!

I FINALLY got over to the Frontiers Records MySpace page
to here NWA and the other track in their entirety and I was
NOT impressed and here's why:

The page opened and a song by Jorn started playing.
Not I only did I dig the song (never heard Jorn before) but
the production/sound quality was outstanding.
So I proceeded to play NWA...
HORRIBLE sound quality; muddy, muted, low-volume...

Is this just a lower bitrate file or is this how the entire
album is gonna sound? I sure as hell hope not.
Anyone know if this is the case???

And another thing bugging me about that song.
Either it was a very smart & bold move on the band's part
to record/release a song that is instantly "familiar" so fans will
immediately be able to hum along or it was pure laziness on their part,
re-hashing 20 year old riffs and melodies.
Seriously, this song is a BGTY/Believe In Me cross-breed from hell!

Shit, Neal's "tone" sounds like he coulda laid down these riffs just
minutes after tracking Believe In Me...

Any thouhgts?

The song is great, especially live, and sounds nothing like Be Good To Yourself or Believe In Me, but I am worried about the production quality. If it's not better than what I heard on the radio then they're in trouble. I suspect it will be on par with TBF though, which was mixed wonderfully by "The Caveman."

Somebody mentioned that the radio stations may have been given a "compressed" version...whatever the fuck that means. They went on to add that to their ears that's what it sounded like. I'll find out June 3rd.

Journey hasn't had a great "sounding" CD since TBF.

Plain and simple - we are spoiled.
For those who haven't been following Journey's every move as the band toiled in corn dog circuit obscurity for the past 8 years, NWA is a killer track.
However, the faithful few of us intimately familiar with songs like "Believe in Me" and "Never Too Late," will notice the similarities right away.

It has definately been an obstruction to me getting into the song.
Still, there is plenty to recommend, I think.

I don't know how SJ can say this song sounds nothing like Believe In Me. It is almost the exact same MUSICALLY.

Initially, I was more distrated by Arnel's accent on NWA.
Didn't really hear it on the Vegas show clips, but found it really distracting on the studio version for the first few listens.

SJ, listen to NWA and the BIM back-to-back. That is when I really heard it. I did not remember BIM and I played it right after listening to NWA.

Edit: Just listen to it and don' hear any similarities. A little close in the opening guitar, but that's Neal's, so who cares. Again, nobody ever heard it before. It's new to me.

NWA has a definitive chorus...I just don't hear much differentiation from the body of the song to the chorus with BIM. It doesn't "soar" at all. Very flat chorus, if at all.

That's fair...
To me, BIM's best "melody" or "riff" is the post-chorus runs,
"Say you wanna come along and go for a ride..."
Those parts of the song just rock.

Similarities and production quality aside,
my only other complaint about NWA is that it
coulda been bumped up a few more BPMs.

Did they play it alittle faster Live?

ALL the samples sound SHITEOUS!!!!!!!!!

It's just the encoding/bitrate/compression.

The finished product will not sound anywhere near what these samples sound like.

It is a smart move I think. Once high quality MP3s are on the web, they are free and the albums won't fly from the shelves.
