Hey, I go nuts if I don't have a book I'm currently reading. Just finished a good one on a Washington State avalanche in 1910, now I need something else.

Anybody got any suggestions?

Dan Brown's the Davinci Code guy, right? I wanted to like that book but hated it...
The Mercenary one sounds interesting, but pretty political for me.

If you want to laugh, any novel by Carl Hiaasen.
And if you want to piss your pants laughing, get anything by Tucker Max. Every story he tells about his own life would qualify for the Hall Of Fame at MR.

I'm VERY picky with literature, most modern novels piss me off. I hate the structure. But this is the best book written in the past 50 years, easily. It's about 600 pages, but trust me, you will NOT be able to put it down. Especially for those who liked things along the line of Angels & Demons, The Rule of Four, and have a mild to severe interest in history mysteries and vampirism.

this sounds promising...
Not huge on Vampires, but I like history, fiction, and horror.

Along those lines, I'd recommend this HEFTY book:

About the search for the Northwest Passage and the expedition that left 2 ships stranded in the arctic. A cool book in that it's historical, but then they threw in the 'Bumble to make it not just a history book. Liked it a lot.

Just watch a movie made from a book. Then you don't have to read it and you can be one of those snobby people who go around saying "The book was soooooo much better than the movie."

I can't remember titles right off hand, but here are some wonderful writers to give a try. When I was on myspace one day I got a message from an author named Joseph Finder. He saw that I liked books by Nelson DeMille(that's one of the authors you should read) and said his books were similar. His lastest is Power Play. He also wrote the book High Crimes that turned in a movie with Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd. He has great books!

Diana Gabaldon-reading one right now by her called Drums of Autumn. She's big on history and borderline time travel

I LOVED A MILLION LITTLE PIECES and I didn't even read it until it was reported that the book was full of fabrications and embellishments......still a GREAT read!!!

I do that anyway...

Movies almost always screw the book up. Lord of the Rings was a notable exception.

I like horror, suspense, survival stories, fiction, non-fiction... I'm pretty open minded except for the political and chick stuff, though, there's been a few of those that were decent too. (Time Traveller's Wife, Water for Elephants, to name two.)

Yeah, she ripped the author of A Million Little Pieces a new on, Jame Frey is his name. But, I'm telling you, that and My Friend Leonard are EXCELLENT reads.

Yes, that's the one!! First Oprah put him on the Best Seller list, then she let him have it for misleading
her and her audience!!! That's when I bought it!!! True or not, it's a GREAT BOOK!!! :wink:

Ever check out stuff by Jeffrey Deaver, particularly the "Lincoln Rhyme" series? Awesome.
Its suspense/crime/murder. I can never put those down. Ever see "The Bone Collector"?
That was originally an LR book (and ignore the movie, the novel are so much better).

Funny thing...after I saw your post this morning I made a mental note to look for this book for hubby (he's a major reader, has all the Anne Rice & would probably like it). I then had to go pick up my kiddo from school and decided to stop at the Goodwill for a few minutes...this book, "The Historian" was lying on a table all by itself! So, I bought it for $1.99 - looks brand new (originally priced at $4.99 at Barnes lol.) Now, I'll go check his study and probably find it already there!

I thought Interview with a Vampire was SO boring. Hated it. Sorry, I know it seems to be the Grail of Vampire books, but I found it really boring.

This isn't along the lines of IWTV. It's educated and cynical. Very researched. It's like backpacking around Europe via text.

The book that came after Interview, The Vampire Lestat, was a lot better.
I actually started with that one, and read Interview later. Interview is not the Grail of those type of books, IMO...
there are better ones. The best one of that series was Memnonch the Devil (book 5, I think).
