His name is Oscar and he's an eight month old black lab. We went to visit another dog that we were interested in at the local Humane Society but that one was quarantined, recovering from an upper respiratory infection, so we decided to visit Oscar instead and fell in love with the guy. He's still at the shelter and needs to have the ol' manhood chopped off, so my wife will bring him home after work on Tuesday. The first shot here is myself and my daughter Angelica and the second is the daughter of one of our friends.

Congrats to you and your family. Nice looking dog. My wife would have him fattened up in no time. Our animals need a treadmill.

He was a stray and pretty obviously malnourished, so he'll probably put on about another twenty pounds.

He's beautiful. His coat is really shiny and healthy looking. I also have a black lab so I'll warn you that they chew on everything, so buy several of those enormous rawhide bones. Congratulations!

Wow. He is pretty skinny. When I saw the last pic. He reminded me of "Santa's Little Helper".

Kudos to you for adopting an older dog from the shelter.
We got our two 90 pound "mutts" from the shelter when they were ten weeks old. Sheppard mixes - best dogs ever!
Congratulations!

Keep us up to date with more photos!

Great dog ! I've read that black/very dark Dogs are more difficult for the shelters to adopt out, so Kudos on a great chioce. We adopted out Black lab from the shelter 4 years ago, he'd been waiting to be adopted for 5 months, and is a great dog !
One word of caution, make sure you keep all chocolate well out of reach, it's poisonous to dogs in large quantities! I've made that mistake twice, and paid a vet quite a pretty penny to pull him through. Raisins and raw onions are also really bad.
Enjoy your new best friend !

He'll be fine with some love and being taken care of. We can't have dogs..long story..but we took in a cat who was really sick and the runt and she now is the craziest healthiest most fun big house cat around. We took her because we knew no one else did..this was years ago and now she is the coolest thing around.
Didn't mean to hijack a doggie thread about a kitty..but that was really the only story I had about turning a animal around..and this cat actually I believe thinks she is a dog..the stories I could tell..she really is my buddy.
Anyway, labs are cool and she is very adorable. Very cool that you did this.

Raisins? Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks for the tip. The lab I sit is crazy for celery.

Awwww, he's adorable, Dave..and so are the kiddos.
Nothing but praise going out to those who rescue pets..we rescued our mixed breed from an abusive situation and she is the best thing that has ever happened to our family. People say she's lucky but we say we're the lucky ones..I'm sure you know what I mean.

Congratulations, what a sweetie! (I love dogs, I have 3 right now).
Don't fatten him up too fast - here's the before and after of our rescue in less than a year. He was skinny but he almost doubled in weight! He's on diet now

Beautiful dog!! As the "mom" to two black lab mixes (one rescued; one from a private home), they are the greatest dogs! Our 4-year-old Coco is technically my daughter's dog and he just loves her to pieces. He's 110 lbs of pure love, and he's the smartest, best-behaved dog I've ever owned. The other, Zeus, is still a puppy so we've still got a lot of work ahead of us with him!
