If Steve Perry would share his opinion publicly....

How do you think he would rate Arnel? I'm sure he's seen all the stuff on youtube and Journey's appearance on Ellen, plus the band probably sent him an advance copy of Revelation...so you can't help but wonder what his thoughts are on Arnel and the band's NEW material? OR, is he just ignoring everything and doesn't give a shit? Somehow, I doubt that...

The latter. He honestly doesn't care about Journey anymore. I mean come on, it's like wondering how well your ex is getting along with her new husband...why would a guy care about that (unless he's a stalker....lol!) If Perry still cared about Journey today, he would still be in Journey today.

He's heard Augeri, he's heard Soto and I'm sure he's heard Arnel, but he'll never admit it. Part of his macho "I'm over being in Journey" posturing. Too bad everything he does behind the scenes and vicariously tells us otherwise.

 So what exactly is he doing behind the scenes?

Making sure that every time Journey has a release he has an announcement of some sort. Red13JoePa posted the timeline once and it was incredible...or just a coincidence. Also, relegating the band to one tour in 22 years didn't exactly scream of a guy willing to just say "Hey guys, I'm done. Move on or pack this thing up." Nope...he shelved them indefinitely and would still have them shelved had they not shown him the door in 1998.

Perry will never admit to anything. He knows Arnel is hitting notes that he cannot. Hes probably bitter.

 That's rich...

Perry is 20 years older than Arnel...of course he can't hit those notes in standard tuning.

And judging from the Ellen clips, Arnel can't quite hit a bunch of them either... 8)

I think Perry's smart to not say anything, besides the things he has said about being proud of his participation in Journey. No matter what the guy says, someone will twist/spin it to try and make him sound like either a God or a major a-hole. He's better off keeping his opinions to himself.

Agreed! I think Perry has done the best thing by being an enigma for so many years now.

Perry doesn't have an opinion. He is a cyborg incapable of thought beyond his programming... which consists of scales and feathered bangs.

...You guys didn't actually think he was human, did you? Check the Houston DVD... watch for the crazy eyes. That's actually a power surge.

If Steve comes out with new music, there will be interviews and If asked his opinion I think he may give one. I don't think he would be able to say he doesn't know anything about Arnel. If not, then he won't say anything.

Regardless, I'm impressed with Arnel and I think he did great for his American TV premier.

I agree with this with the exception of him always seeming to rise from the dead EVERY TIME Journey does something. Isn't it enough that he was getting paid for tours he never did, he had to horn in on their publicity as well? Not cool. It's good that he keeps quiet about each incarnation of the band, but it's not cool that he jumps on their press bandwagon each time there's news of the band.

Perhaps. Perhaps not. We'll see if Steve really lays the smackdown this year or next with a new record. Hopefully he does.

DUDE. I had a dream the other night that Captain Friga DID have a tea party. I was there, and Dean, and Jeremey, and Andrew, and randomly enough weatherman90 was there.

Surreal.

Coincidence? I think not!

"Today" being the operative word. I conceded that. Perry is almost 60 & hasn't sang regularly (publicly?) for 14 years...Perry @ 60 vs. Arnel @ 40 isn't a fair fight.

And, again, Arnel was trying to hit notes Perry can't hit....all his attempts at highs during SW were flat...ie, he missed the notes too.

Not busting his balls, they're hard notes to hit...any singer would find it a challenge.

But there seems to be a bad case of "Journey goggles" around here sometimes...like everyone's just happy to have someone singing that wrong notes and clumsy phrasing is allowed just because "IT'S JURNEEEEEE!!!!" *faints*

C'mon folks; this is a no-win deal for SP. If he says, "The guy sucks," everyone goes crazy with "oooooh, sour grapes, what a bitter old dude." If he says, "The guy sounds great," everyone says, "That's pathetic; did he just give up on his own dreams? I bet he really thinks the guys sucks and is lying..."

He's taking the high road with "don't know, haven't listened to him (them); not my business."
