Neal...ask yourself this question please.

Q: If you suffered permanent damage to your playing hand through years of use and could no longer play the Journey catalog, how would YOU feel watching Perry, Cain, Valory, etc. pick up with a "sound alike" guitarist and continue on with the name "Journey" and attempt to essentially "erase" your contributions in the eyes of the public? Would it bother you?
That is EXACTLY what Perry has had to deal with and really explains alot of his actions over the years. Not saying he has been a "saint"...no way but, think about it...what would something like that do to you and your psyche? It no doubt has eaten away at SP for years...
Mend the fences.

I'm not going to attempt to psychoanalyze him, but Neal is already on record saying he'd be perfectly ok with the guys moving on without him if it came to that.

Neal and company waited 7 years and Perry toured with someone else. Your argument is invalid.

Perry already did that on the Love of Strange Medicine Tour
Why is he forgetting that.

Neal is practically irreplaceable... BUT.. there IS a short list of guitarists with similar tone and style that wouldn't sound TOO out of place replacing him on a Journey album (if lord forbid that ever happened):
Steve Lukather
Joe Satriani
John Petrucci
Josh Ramos
This one guy I know named Ferb

The argument is from the TBF era, not what happened after ROR.

Question for Steve Perry:
What would you do if this band was built around your amazing vocals and Neal Schon was injured and put your band on hold for 12 years? Would you even have waited that long?
Steve Perry has NO defense for being so petty and self centered. I say this with all due respect because I love Steve Perry, but I think he's a bit of an ass too.

1986 until 1998 before Journey could tour again.

exactly. no one ever knows how they will truly respond to anything until they are in that situation.

Neal would have done what needed to be done to get himself back out on the road fastest. He wouldn't have warbled in uncertainty for 2 fucking years. Perry has an excuse for everything. Problem is that his fucking excuses are about as ridiculous as Ebstein's from Welcome Back Kotter.

It was 1987 after the ROR tour ended to 1995 when they got in the studio and put out TBF in 1996

Okay, so ELEVEN years until the band could tour again. You're right. That makes a HUGE difference.

Yeah, Perry had a lot of people depending on him. Get the effing hip replaced, rehab and tour the next year. That way you're still in the band, too.

It was not about touring it was getting back together. The gap was 8 (EIGHT) years

Very true, and the thing is this...they waited 2 years for Perry to make the
decision as to whether or not he was going to have the surgery. They obviously knew it was gonna be a year or so more after that. The band members were
completely selfless in this situation.

I have to wonder, now that Neal has admitted the alcoholism.... if that was a factor in keeping the band apart. Touring with an active alcoholic would not be a fun thing to do. I sure as hell wouldn't want to commit to that. I'm guessing it may have been a factor.

I'm sure Neal wanted to be on the road. I know very well what the gap was between albums. I'm talking about being a band and being out on the road -- Perry prevented that for 11 years. They were SAINTS to wait that long. Again, Perry has no defense. NONE.

He did not wanna be in the band Journey from 1987 onwards. He stated that blatantly in the interview, and told them so. Thats his defence, or the way i read it.

Then why did he call Jon Cain (a guy he wouldn't let in his show a year prior) as soon as the reformed Journey started recording, asking to be back in?

That was years later. He didn't wanna be in the band after the ROR tour. He then obviously wanted to give it another go all those years later. We all change our minds with certain things.

Why doesn't Neal ever mention the fact that the band was in the process of reforming prior to Perry's TBF intervention?
Perry isn't to be credited for reuniting the Escape lineup for TBF, so much as he is for putting the brakes on an even better Journey lineup (Schon/Cain/Rolie/Chalfant/Valory).

Neal should never have waited the 8 years. I understand why he did, but in retrospect it wasn't the greatest of ideas.

They waited 2 years for his hip issue to settle and it never did
It was an excuse to not sing live.
He lost his confidence on stage and he pretty much admitted that.
You will never see Perry sing live again you can pretty much bet on that.

Fear of loss thats why
He is really up the creek now with Arnel in the band
The re-record of the classics all but closes the book on Mr Perry
He has nobody to blame but himself
I would say Perry lost JRNY and its members 50 million dollars from his absence in the band.

The
guaranteed TBF tour money was
way more than that.
