And did his medical career end up a success?

I never have heard much about Pennybags, his life, his music, or his ways.

He did one CD with Ross Valory and Stevie "Keys" Roseman Called "VTR". More of a "Jazz" project but very nice stuff. You can hear it and buy it at www.rossvalory.com.
