I am shocked and saddened at the attitudes of so many people on this board in regard to SP in general and the fact as to whether or not he will release any new music. While I don't post a lot, I've read this board for quite some time and I am seeing people, who in the past have sung his praises, now ripping into him big time. This guy is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. I truly believe we will be hearing new music from him in the near future - his interview with the GQ author is more than what we have heard from him in a long time and is most encouraging. He didn't have to say anything at all about what he has been up to this past year. If what was printed in that article, or subsequent interview with him, was something he did not personally say, you KNOW you would have heard from him, more sooner than later.

If you all want to jump on the Journey/Arnel bandwagon, go right ahead. But, I sure hope that he doesn't read all the negativity and decide not to do anything for that reason. I believe he can still sing. I know he can still sing. Put yourself in his shoes -- no one had a voice like he had - he set the bar so high and you can't blame him for maybe questioning after all these years -- after all, even he has to live up to that standard and it can't possibly be easy for him either.

I wish that after they parted ways, Journey would have taken a whole different name and retired those classics and just started over...... I don't care who they replace him with - the bottom line is that no one can sing those classics like Steve Perry - NO ONE!!!

So please remember before you start criticizing, he is a real human being with real human feelings -- someone who has given us so much........

I'm sure pretty much everyone here would do backflips if Steve Perry put out new music, but if you are a realist, you know it's not going to happen.

Move along, Foolish Heart. He has given us one tourless record and tons of heartache during the past 21 years. The band has been around for 35 years. Perry was only there for 9 of them.

The only 'slams' are those that are perceived by the fans. Don't you think that the labels would be all over him, if he were still viable? There would be no reason for him to have demos. If the record people thought he was able to do something on his own in today's market, they'd be knocking down his door, and giving him all the free studio time they have. Since he's said that he's been writing and recording (personal studio) since early last summer, and the general public has yet to hear anything, then we all should be skeptics. Does it take an entire year (or more) for someone of his calibre to put out new music, or make a few live dates?

Don't get me wrong, I love that man's voice in his day, and would wager that he's still great (in some capacity) today, but if 'Steve Perry' is still a music force today, then why don't we hear him already?

There's no 'slam' whatsoever, as long as he says he's retired. If he says he's still singing, but we don't hear him, especially live, then he's only 'slamming' himself.

Maybe because Journey just put out a kick ass CD and is about to go on tour and a handful of Perry zealots keep whining about how poor Steve was mistreated and blah blah blah. I love Steve Perry to death, but his over the top fan base tends to turn me off to him. Time to move on... he's not coming back and he's not going to make any new music.

Timing. Today is new Journey release day. Only part Perry plays is they covered him on Disc 2 which most aren't into. I'm not anyway, still haven't listened to it. Compliment to Perry right there.

Talking up non-existent Perry releases today is spittin' into the wind.

BINGO! I just can't see anyone getting into the remakes...today's fans or some new generation faction.

I have no desire to run out and get the new stuff from Journey. Until I hear something by them on my local radio station and like what I hear only then will I think about getting anything. I go by the song not the group. As for Steve Perry. I love his singing. I believe in my heart of hearts the he can sing. Only Steve knows when he will release something. He's not going to release anything just to get the negative people over to his side. You either believe he can sing or you don't. Steve really doesn't care. As for all the posters on this board who say that SP can't sing. I just skip over those post. The world is negative enough I don't need to read those kinds of posts.

As I said weeks ago, until it's in my iPod, its an urban legend. Perry himself hasn't said a damn thing about releasing anything. The GQ writer said it. Espee said he didn't know yet. And that's fine. I'll be here waiting if it happens but I'm not going to do cartwheels just yet. The slamming him.. well hell, what else is new. I've been saying for a long time that no matter what he does, he seems to catch hell. He doesn't say shit, people complain. He does say shit, suddenly everyone is suspicious of his timing and motive. Can't have it both ways people.

I'll admit the timeline is pretty strange, but its circumstantial. GQ initiated this one though. They called him. Its not like he said "Journey's releasing a record, I have to pipe up and make noise!"

They didn't change the name when he entered the band so they shouldn't have had to when he left.

I crave hearing anything from SP. ANYTHING. But honestly at the end of the day, I just hope he's happier than he's ever been. I'm a huge fan of his and found that out when he was no longer with Journey because I no longer care about them or what they are doing. The songs just aren't as good in my opinion, it doesn't matter who is singing them. I too hope he has a new album out soon but if it doesn't then that's okay. I have his songs on my iPod and they get heavy rotation. :wink:

A lot of people bash him but it's real easy to sit in judgement of someone when you haven't lived in their shoes and you think you know...

I think most of the people on this forum are asses but then- I don't know them and I'm sure they couldn't be as nasty as they seem. :roll:

I am tired of all the BS Steve gets its a pain in the ass i will say. I also feel they should have changed there name & moved on.They had JSS and they would all been great with kics ass music.But he was not good enought for them and got screwed by them.Now on to Me P that man can sing the phonebook if he wants to. New music i don't see it but we never know with that man.And as for not having it ready you know if there is one it had to be perfect before it will be out.I still am a fan & love that mans music no matter what he dose. If he dose come out new music i will be at Wally World very early to get my cd.

As for the new music from this band i will not buy it or go and see them.I saw them with SP and talk about a show OMG! i have never been to another show like that nor will i ever see a show like that again. They left you wanting more and gave everything that had to give.There shows with SP kicked ass big time.Thanks old journey.

I don't really see where SP takes anymore slamming than SA, JSS or Arnel for that matter. It's all a matter of personal taste.

Terrible argument when you compare the achievements and success of that 9 year period vs the other 26. I've personally had no heartache regarding Steve Perry ever. Well, once. The firing of Steve Smith. Other than that, none.

That is so true. Also, I don't think I've read anything here saying that Steve Perry wasn't a phenominal singer. People have said some really horrible things about SA, JSS and Arnel. There is nothing out there to judge SPs singing now. When a CD is in my hands, that's when I'll believe that SP is working on new music.

I kinda agree......after seeing the slams JSS and SA having taken in the last while too. I don't get it, I think some people just like to bitch and get a rise out of people (cough cough, SJ, cough cough). :wink:

Just cuz SA didn't do it for me vocally/frontman, I have never once slammed the guy. But anyone slamming my 3 faves, I tend to go a little snakey on their ass. :lol:

Way too much work for minimal payoff.

To say nothing of the fact the by the time it sees the light of day, most of us will be catatonic, bedridden and eating from feeding tubes rather than able to do backflips.
