"his name escapes me, but he sounds like Steve Perry'

This is something I heard on the radio today about current Journey and Perry's alleged new stuff. TO BE CLEAR... I'm quoting the woman from the radio, that's all. The views and totally misconstued info about to be posted are NOT mine.

LTS was playing and at the end, the DJ says "Well, that's what they used to sound like, and actually that's what they sound like again. Journey's new singer sounds a lot like Steve Perry... his name escapes me right now but he's... he's part... I dunno, part Asian... I want to say Filipino...? and I think also part Indian..."

Then she reports on Perry by saying, "Steve Perry says that he wishes them luck, but he's like, 'I'm working on my own stuff now.' He says he doesn't miss [being with Journey]. I don't think I really believe that, but...." ....and then she plays the next song.

This is more or less verbatim what she said. So it's interesting to see how those with a casual knowledge of what's happened view it. I don't know where she read anything about wishing them luck or not missing it. I don't recall one damn word about luck. LOL.

Don't shoot the messenger.

It would help if you provided the call letters of the radio

and what day and time the quote was made.

Then we could help to educate her. Ignorance can be overcome with knowledge.

Not entirely true... some people are just to blinded by their own agenda to be reasoned with.

It amazes me how many times DJs don't get things right...I remember one last year discussing where SP is now & saying that 'well, ya know he had that motorcycle accident'??!

Well at the time I heard it I started laughing at just how badly she messed up the band info, but you know, it's certainly to be expected. It was funny to me becasue I knew the real facts, but ... Not everyone, in fact most probably haven't paid much attention to the situation over the years and I guess her comments are an indication of what the "casual" fans see. Not everyone even knows Perry isn't the singer anymore and when they hear that it's like, "Oh really? Well... what's he up to, then? What's Journey doing...?"

I mean like this DJ for example... she obviously heard they have a new singer who isn't American, but it wasn't of enough interest for her to any further into is than that. And that represents the majority, I firmly believe. People like that, and like several people I've had this conversation with who were casual fans only, wouldn't have known wtf Journey was up to if I hadn't told them. And then when they hear that I have a working knowledge of Journey's current state of the union is they always follow it up with, "Well, what about Steve Perry? What's he doing?" At least 5 people have asked me that in the recent past. LOL!

Interesting... maybe the point is that separately, no one pays nearly as much attention as they might if they were still together.

My guess is she had no idea what she was talking about. Read something somewhere, probably the internet  .

Radio sucks so bad now I'm surprised there are DJs that still have the ability to say anything at all that is not programed. Bring back the days that DJs were local, actually play stuff from new, previously obscure talent, play what they (or their listeners) want, cut up a little...hell, I might listen to radio again if they did that.

DJs used to be music fans, students of the industry. Now they are just announcers reading a script and playing what they are told.
