Sales Numbers - Confirmation of counting process

Postby Andrew » Fri Jun 06, 2008 11:11 am

Folks - to clear the confusion -

Sales for the Billboard chart are based on units sold - regardless of the number of discs within a package. So reports of possibly 80,000 units is precisely that - 80,000 sales.

Certifications for Gold Awards etc.. are then based on the discs within a package 1CD = 1; 2CD set = 2 etc.

Good number then for the band...80,000 first week would be great.

I will present the EXACT number sold early next week when 100% final.

80,000 sounds high.

Sad to think of classic rock, when bands like Journey and others from the golden era of music (IMO) are now happy with a number like that in the first week. Alas, I feel we are all growing older and the world has changed (not) for the better.

 I heard that song today, so I threw that in. :-)

I thought I read somewhere that "Arrival" was at or over 200,000.

Generations was given away at shows, so the later official release sold bugger all.

Arrival is over 250,000 I believe. I'll get all the numbers as of this week shortly.

So, will Walmart be re-stocking this for a long time?
I had heard someone in here say that the original
agreement was for 500k - 750k initial units...

If those initial releases all sell, would Walmart
ship more? I know it sounds
far-fetched for them to move that many units
but who knows what can happen, especially once
the tour kicks off.

And if not, can the band sell a lesser package (maybe just
the new material) at other outlets at some point in the future?
