Billboard 200? How do they figure the charts?

From Wiki

"The chart is based solely on sales (both at retail and digitally) in the United States. The sales tracking week begins on Monday and ends on Sunday. A new chart is published the following Thursday with an issue date of the following Saturday.

Example:
Monday 1 January — sales tracking week begins
Sunday 7 January — sales tracking week ends
Thursday 11 January — new chart published, with issue date of Saturday 20 January"

So does this mean the first week would be the pre-orders shipped on 5/30?

Week 1
June 26 - June 1 - pre-orders shipped
June 5 - chart published
June 7 - chart issued

Or do we go by all sales count first week? Are pre-orders included here.
June 2 - Jun 8 - sales
June 12 - chart published
June 14 - chart issued

I've never followed charts so I don't know how this works, but It's really interesting now. Anybody know how this is counted?

This Thursday will reveal where Journey ranks based on units sold from Tuesday 6-3 through Monday 6-9. I predict number 4 with about 110,000 units moved. 8)

So where do pre-orders fit it, Mailed/sold on 5/30? I seriously don't know if it matters or not but just curious.

I believe pre-orders count for the first official week as they don't reach the consumer before the actual release date. Again, I'm pretty sure that's how it works, but not positive. They should eclipse 100,000 packages moved. 8)

Damn dude, that's ambitious, but I like the way you think.

For some reason, it sticks in my mind that some band charted on pre-orders. No clue when or where, just one of those idiotic things that stuck.

Pre-orders through regular outlets count as first day sales.

Maybe the pre=sales apply to that Billboard Top 100 Chart, which I would not expect Journey to be on.
